Well some good initial data.

Mirrors are an easy aftermarket fix that can be functional at even 4” if aspheric mirrors are used.

More importantly with all the cameras and Birds Eye view…..it can make navigating tight spaces easy. Realistically, if I can see with cameras to park, I can get closer than I would normally DARE with mirrors.

After my last purchase of my wife’s car with 360 cameras, I simply won’t buy a new vehicle without some variation of it. That isn’t a gig on her or my skill set, but it’s 2024…..camera technology is cheap, and wether it’s trails or Metropolis parking, or the need to almost tap into something while garage parking, it gets used.

Everyone seems freaked out by the 91.6" inch width figure released by Scout, but it may just be an error too.

If we are to assume that the dimensions image released by Scout yesterday is accurate and to scale, then the width must be wrong.

Someone else measured the height and width of the vehicle drawing precisely with calipers and found the width is 1.127 times the height. If the height measurement is correct at 76.3 the width is actually about 86.0 in (with mirrors because they do not project).
I believe the drawing was revised with side mirrors that are now to scale (and do project). That said, the mirrors are likely to change between now and production and for me, I hope they get taller and more square.

Given the complete lack of reliable information about the dimensions other than what seemed like an aspirational diagram, I decided to estimate it by using an object of known size and extrapolating from that to the track width (body width is a bit more). The tires on the show vehicle are BFGoodrich 35x12.5R20, which are 12.5" wide.

The outside tire to outside tire width is almost exactly 7 tires. If this estimate is correct, it means the track width is 87.5 inches. I think that's it's easily believable that the body width is 4.1 inches greater (2.05 inches on each side), given the fender flare.

I believe the width spec in the diagram on the Scout website is correct for the show vehicle. Whether that will also be true for the production vehicles remains to be seen.

I hate changing subjects but going to do so anyway...anybody see where the backup camera is mounted? It would be nice to use that spare mount for stuff and not give up use of the camera.

The Traveler is pretty much the size of the new Land Cruiser 250:

Width without Mirrors: 77.9"
Width WITH Mirrors: 82.5
Overall Length: 196.4
Wheelbase: 112.2
Height: 75.7

@Mdietrich74 The Traveler SUV and Terra Pickup are both 79.9 inches wide without mirror compared to Gladiator's 73.8 inches wide without mirror. That's 6.1 inches wider.
That isn't as bad. Thank you, must have missed that somehow. My Gladiator mirrors don't stick out past the fenders.

I'm disappointed to see it so big. Not a desirable size for the true off roader I was hoping for. Would be be difficult navigating on the narrow switched back trails here in Colorado.
When the new Bronco came out people commented on its width compared to the Jeeps. I know that especially back East people have issue on some trails with the Bronco’s width. I think the size of the Traveler will limit it to some extent.

Seems like an interesting choice on length.

While I've not owned one, to me an EV is almost certainly a garage car...? Unless you have a tandem this is dangerously close to not fitting into your average home garage.

It is basically the same length as my 4 Runner which fits in my garage. it is a newer house and the depth is a lot less on newer homes. When we moved to Florida a couple of years ago I wanted to build new but could not find any new construction with 1/2 acre+ lots. We settled for an older home (2012). Sounds like I am in the minority but I like the length of the R1S. I ordered the Traveler but may end up with the Tera. Ideally I like to get down 1 vehicle not a truck and SUV.

There are cyber trucks doing some of these switchbacks. Sure, there are certain trails that are more narrow than others but I think you’d be fine doing most of the trails. Maybe in the future they’ll make a smaller 2 door version. 🤞

One thing to keep in mind is the Cybertruck has rear wheel steering which helps with tight turns on switchbacks.

Agreed. This would make it a non-starter on many of my local GA/TN/WV/NC/VA trails, as well. Severe pin-striping at minimum, and many that would simply be off-limits.

My Bronco 4dr barely makes it through on some trails, and that is with what I personally consider a decent amount of pin-striping.
