Rivian has the high lift over design you’re talking about. I can see the pros and cons to this design. Personally, I would rather have the scout/lightning design with hopes the aftermarket comes out with a removable front wall.
They're using a lot of Rivian software and the zonal architecture. It's not a big stretch to think they would use the same suspension system Rivian is using. If you read the Rivian Forum's there are countless complaints of the air suspension having chronic issues; Vehicle sagging, suspension...
I read that too, but that article is new information and it makes it sound like the air suspension will be the only offering. Of course, it could be out of context or directly pointed at a certain trim, time will tell.
I'm all for air suspension being an option for those that want it, I just...
Oil coolant pumps, coils/struts, upper/lower control arms, etc. Scout is on record in multiple forms saying 80% of the vehicle is serviceable by the end user. Now there’s added compressors, vacuum lines, and complex dampers. Plus, I’m guessing the alignment issues that’s has plagued Rivian is...
DAMN! Well, the price just increased another $5k at least! Rivian owners are reporting about $2,000 PER damper to replace, not including labor. Also, there goes the owner driveway serviceability they mentioned early on.
Here’s my guess; Rivian is providing the zonal architecture and the software, this stands to reason that Rivian is just using the tester to build the code. The R1, R2, and R3 are all BEV without any generator capabilities. Rivian will need to have one on long term loan to fully integrate the...
If Scout is smart, and I believe they are, they will package this motor in a way that it could be lowered in a single unit. Simply undo some bolts with dampers, and lower it on a hydraulic lift. I'm betting they are going to package this unit not too dissimilar from a generic generator. In the...
“pretty easy” is a relative term. I wouldn’t have the knowledge and experience, but a skilled mechanic will probably already have the tools on hand. I doubt there will be an engine drop mode (hydraulics that lower the engine), something like that is another point of chronic failure.
Changing...
Based on what they’re saying, this is going to be pretty much the only EV that you can tinker with. I really think they’re going to make dropping the whole motor subframe pretty easy.
Having a lift up hatch access would help with convenience, but would put a big damper on those that plan to use these rigs for overlanding. A lot of people like to install storage systems in the bed of trucks or the cargo area. Being required to remove those storage solutions just to change the...
I apologize, I don't mean to imply anything negative. I used worked up as a generic term, not attaching your state of mind or anything.
I'm not sure how much Scout actually reads these forums, not saying they don't, but they pay for community feedback and think tanks.
My thought on the...
You might want to wait and see before getting worked up about this. Based on renders, it looks like the little motor is just bolted to the rear frame. It won’t have any driveline components, just a fuel hose and wires. I imagine reaching it for maintenance will be as easy as removing shielding...
Must haves for my towing needs (21’ bay boat):
a hitch
A camera that can see the ball at that hitch (Bronco and Wrangler fail at this)
That’s it, a brake controller will prob be standard via Rivian base software integration.
I live in NC and am a very early reservation holder. As long as they offer trade-ins (and provide a competitive offer) I'll take delivery from the factory. There's no way my wife would drive me 3.5hrs to pick up a vehicle.
Out of Spec said the backseat is closer to an F150 than a Rivian R1T, which is larger than a mid-size. Looking at the dimensions online, the Terra is only about 6” shorter than a F150.
