Alright, so here's the deal: under 10,000 pounds of towing? Seriously? That's, like, ancient history. 7,500? Okay, maybe we can work with that. But 5,000? Come on! That's basically Explorer, 4Runner, Telluride numbers. I'm totally scratching my head because I reserved the Terra Harvester, and I figured it'd tow like a truck, not some SUV/crossover thing. Now I'm thinking, forget the range, I'm going full electric just to get some decent towing power.
That’s my thought exactly. I reserved the Terra Harvester not knowing the towing would be affected so dramatically. I need 8,000 lbs minimum for the boat. 10,000 gave me just enough cushion to be happy. I guess I’ll have to go pure EV as well and deal with charging. RIP 🪦

Crossing my fingers things may change in the next two years for the EREV for its towing capacity.

I wonder if the tow rating discrepancy is a battery chemistry thing? I’m new to EV batteries, but it shouldn’t be much difference (certainly not 5k lbs!) between curb weight on harvester versus BEV.

Anyone who knows batteries that can chime in on…idk discharge rates? Heat dissipation issues?

They seriously shouldn't have debuted this video with that drivetrain note. It sounds terrible. I know this is a prototype, but yikes.
It was pretty annoying, but not making and conclusion out of today's drive.
That goes to show how much work it takes to develop a prototype and how much more they need to work on to make it fully functional.

Believe he said the range extender in both models was only 5k lbs, it was after the discussion on the 3 driving modes and can be heard at about the 5 minute mark. If so, I'm cancelling my reservation as the towing capability with adequate range is a must have...so disappointed right now

Honestly the towing capacity reduction for the Terra Harvester may be the deal killer for me. 5k puts it under my wife's Subaru Ascent. With our current configuration that number is fine with a tent trailer fully loaded coming in at around 4500, but we have been looking at upgrading to a larger trailer that when loaded would put it closer to 7500. Going all electric makes no sense as we take trips currently at up to 350 miles one way with towing. The Ramcharger is touted as having 14k of towing. This really hurts. I LOVE the Terra, but...

Ouch. I was hoping the Terra Harvester would replace my Rivian R1T Quad Motor in pulling my Airstream with more range. It has the range but now removes the capacity. This one’s a showstopper for me.

One of the main reasons I wanted the Harvester was range towing a 5K lb TT to the desert, so if this isn't changed by launch time I will have to look elsewhere, Ramcharger? Perhaps he just mis-spoke and it will be corrected, I need at least 7K towing.

I get it. I don't do long hauls, is to take the boat to the marina, but I can't even do that with a full size pickup trucks like the Terra... Is just unreal. But the full electric would do the trick at least in my case.

I really hope they keep a tab on the forums. There’s still plenty of time for them to fix this before 2027. We need to get our voices heard.

Not sure the surprise here.

Tow capacity is always a trade off for an off-road vehicle and 5000lb is in line with cross shopped vehicles IMO. The notable exception being the GX550.

While this forum likely has a concentration of folks wanting that tow capacity, the average customer regularly hauling 7500 lbs is buying a truck and the guy wanting to overland has a 3000lb teardrop not a 25ft glamping machine. The Venn on both is not a big market and makes a compromised vehicle for both IMO.

Truck I get the letdown, but harvester right in line with what id expected

Man, I’ve been so excited about this thing, but if the 5,000 lb tow rating holds on the Terra harvester, I’m out. I can pull my camper with an 11 year old Nissan Frontier, but not with the scout I reserved. Pull through chargers are not nearly enough places for the pure ev when towing for me. Maybe the traveler could fit our household for my wife, but at that point we would prefer a third row.

I take it also a different battery(s) for the Harvester than the EV because the batteries composition type you can always charge to 100% and take lots and lots of charging cycles with much less degradation.

The basic 2WD Tesla 3 has something like that.

Don't hold me to it but that kinda battery may be much heavier than the EV only battery(s), thus towing capacity gets dinged.

Good video and conversation about the Scout with Jay. Yeah the truck was loud (tranny whine) and you could hear rattles etc., but that is normal for pre-production mules and did not shock me at all. They mention it during the first few minutes of the drive and Jay reiterates it a few times.

Overall still very excited about this vehicle and can't wait to get video's of vehicles closer to production.
