Is Scout dead in the water? I'm not buying it at a 10-25% tariff added cost.

Scout mentioned their vehicles would be eligible for the credit (or at least would have been eligible for the credit). I think that requires US made batteries. I don't know the percentage, but they needed to build most of the Truck in the US (or at least not in a lot of specific countries) to avoid the Chicken tax.

I am not all that worried that these tariffs, even if they stay, will hurt Scout any worse than any other American made vehicle - and given a lot of "American" vehicles are not made in Mexico, probably significantly less.

how Do tariffs impact Scout?
Too early to tell, but I thought I just saw another post about SM sourcing the batteries from a JV in Canada...

If i remember correctly 80% of the vehicle has to be made in the USA to be able for the Credit or final assembly has to be done here. And for the Battery it will either be Panasonic’s LFP (who is opening another factory in the US soon) or it will be PowerCo’s LFP battery.

Which Scout would qualify since 50% of materials are coming from South Carolina and over 80% in total are being sources here in America. We can assume that the battery will probably be made by PowerCo in Germany since it’s the only factory that I believe is up and running. So that very well could be the other (20%,15%,10%, 5%) of the Vehicle since when you look at a the make up of an EV around 20ish% is the battery.

Production is still about two years out. It's a little soon to be worrying...
I agree. We’ll see how this mess all shakes out. It’s not a net positive for the economy, so hopefully it’s just a temporary method of shaking down our trading partners for other concessions. Hopefully.

I have bar bills higher than the effects of costs the now suspended Tariffs may bring.

As long as I can still buy those jack ass cheap-O Harbor Freight Generators is all I'm concerned about.

We'll see what happens to the EPA fairly soon it looks like. Emissions and mileage are two reasons why companies are moving to EV.
Yep i see massive moves happening in the EPA on the news. 1,000 employees put on immediate leave.

Production is two (or more) years away. A hell of a lot can change between now and then, but the fact VW has already been discussing bringing Porsche and Audi production utilizing the VW plant in Chattanooga and the Scout plant tells me they are planning way ahead as a counter to any tariff related issues.

Relax and let things play out. I’ve never believed the target price was achievable when you look at the prices of any ICE or EV competitors, but I absolutely believe they will have a price competitive vehicle when it all shakes out.

The rate of inflation under the previous administration greatly exceeded any possible tariffs on assembled parts from a tariff country for the Scout, which are very few. For example, a 2020 Silverado LTZ had an MSRP of $43,000. A 2024 Silverado had an MSRP of $59,195. That is an almost 38% increase in cost. As such, without severe corrective actions with govt spending; the cost of inflation is likely to impact the purchase price of a Scout far more than any potential tariff.

It's built in the US, tariff's are parts, if they do happen, will likely become a trade bullet point where there can be 'in kind' trade of parts/supplies.

Production is so far out and the reserve is only $100 refundable there is literally no risk.

Everyone should think of it as an investment. This is considered a low risk investment its like a government bond. Its not like investing in Rivian or Tesla, Nvidia Stock

Prices of US made goods generally rise when tariffs are applied to foreign competitive goods because demand shifts towards domestic goods, and when demand goes up, bingo, prices go up. And because if a competitor is suddenly 25% more than your domestic product, you’re going to raise your prices by maybe 15% simply because you can. These are all well known results of tariffs. None of this is a mystery except apparently to the new kids in chstge. Prices of pretty much everything will go up.

Even if those numbers are true now $45k average won't be a well compensated salary in a couple years at this rate. Ford is losing money on all their EV's so I'm guessing a 30% gross profit is definitely for entertainment purposes only. But oh well, I guess no one else is concerned on how things will affect Scout in the future.
First year teacher salary in North Texas is universally $60k. I have to pay my accounting clerk $22 an hour to stay competitive and that is an entry level clerical job (comes out to right at $46k annually).

My point is that $45,000 isn't going to be the average of an assembly line worker. I believe that Toyota is offering its line assembly workers starting pay of $22.12/an hour. So, I think your numbers are right for workers with zero or limited experience on production assembly. They will need experienced people as well, who will get more (Toyota SA pays around $63k as max for line). I think the average will be between those two figures, with the number being below the median as lots of their workers will be brand new likely.
