Very different battery chemistries between the two, the EV gets nickel metal hydride? Is there another BEV using NMH?
Who can explain the battery difference. They said it was for cost and weight.

Did I understand correctly that the towing capacity drops to 5,000 lbs when you get the harvester??
I thought he said 11,000 pounds when in EV mode, but drops to 5,000 when using the gas engine. I felt he sort of glazed over it.

I also heard the 'drops to 5k' for both comment. I dont believe it. I understand putting a motor aft of the rear axle will put more stress on the rear of the frame and the read axle. I'd expect a 2k drop for each: Terra 10k->8k, Harvester 7k->5k. It doesnt make any sense for the SUV to only drop 2k and the truck to drop 5k.

On the official forums Jamie mentioned the numbers are fluid right now. I'm aiming for a 6500lbs trailer behind the Terra. I honestly still expect to be able to do that.

Has Scout not received our demands for a compact vehicle that carries 26 people, comfortably fits 99 percentile Americans, has cargo capacity to move an entire 2 bedroom apartment in one trip and tow 196,000 pounds simultaneously? Oh, it also needs to be capable of winning King of the Hammers and run on spring water.

Personally, unless there is an organic hydroponic strawberry garden under the rear seat, I'm cancelling my reservation.

I figured it dropped to 5K because the engine wouldn't be able to keep up with charging the battery while towing something heavier than 5k. I could totally be wrong though.
That makes sense. 5000lb will give you 500 miles. I gues anything heavier will drop the range drastically and the harvester will have a hard time keeping with the demand.... Good point.

Which...if the ramcharger has a bigger engine and bigger fuel tank, then its possible its towing capacity doesn't drop nearly as much.

Let's not forget the flux capacitor.

Did anyone else catch that driving solely on gas is possible? I think he said at 70mph? Am I misunderstanding or misremembering that?

So assuming these vehicles get 2 miles/kwh, which seems to be what these size of vehicles are getting, the harvester engine would have to produce 35kw continuous? Does that seem feasible for the engine they have described? 4 cyl, non turboed, etc, likely around 2liter? 35kw seems like a bit much for an engine that size. Something isn't adding up for me.

I feel like that could possibly be tweaked by the time it goes on sale. Lot of time between now and 2027
Yes, that is correct.
I suspect the technical issue that prevents the harvester from larger payloads is that they'd need to put a larger harvester engine in to do that. (I'm picturing a V8 sticking out the back.) I also suspect that the lower towing capacity is actually when using the hybrid mode, the all electric mode should be capable of the higher number.

I don’t know about the rest of the math, but 35kW is ~47.5 hp. At 30% efficiency that seems…vaguely reasonable?
