Front Bench Seat closeup photos -- who's going to option it?

Would be a good option if they can pull it off. From what I remember the cybertruck was originally planned to have a bench seat option but crash/airbag regs nixed it. Something about middle passenger hitting their head on the screen in a front end collision. Maybe there was more it though

I was wondering about the airbag issue. I know the New Defender has (Had?) a front bench seat option when it came out, I wonder how they handled that.

The SRA, Range Extender and ultimately front bench won me over. I hope it's available on the Traveler, it's not listed as an option on the site only the Terra shows it as a feature. Considering they are the same width and platform I hope the front bench isn't truck only. I have no need for the truck, have two 2500 Suburbans already Front bench seats are awesome for dogs and comfort, sometimes you just need to stretch out. They are also great for photography and animal spotting! It's very promising for a vehicle to have real world uses in mind.

I believe they said during the reveal it would be available for both but only shown on the Terra for the concept.

We'll probably do the bench seat as long as there's some kinda pull out cupholder or what have you for when it's not in use. Having the 6th seat available for hauling kids friends or in laws eliminates a second car for us on some around town trips without the need for a third row and thats a big deal for us.

It’s a nostalgic look … but unless you’re going to put a person there, it does not provide any other functional value.

I prefer the functional benefit I’ll get from the console.

Not putting a person there (at least not primarily), but my dog likes to place himself between my wife and I so this would likely be his seat.

The Silverados I usually buy have bench seats but only on lower trims (the console is used for electronics). I reserved specifically because of the bench seat. I like the roominess of a truck and a center console takes away from that. Neither my girlfriend nor my dog likes to sit on a file cabinet.

My FIL 2018 F-250 has front bench seat with fold down back, cupholders, small console, and armrest. I love it. Each of the sides has a little bit of a bucket seat scoop. All of it was integrated enough it took me about a half hour driving, after picking it up for him out of state, for me to realize it wasn't bucket seats with a standard console.

The Scout one doesn't look quite that nice, a little flat and unsupportive. But I'm hoping the production one is even better and I'm leaning that way.

Had a similar discussion on the Rivian forum. Our Ram Power Wagon has a hybrid front bench. This was their only option until the last year or so as the mechanical transfer case lever was in the way.

Our convertible seat stays folded down 99% of the time as its used as a normal center console with cup holders and loads of storage in the 'back section'. There is addition storage under the seat bottom along with the nav disc player.

It comes in handy from time-to-time, but having it over the years, I would switch to the full console for our family needs. You realize what a PITA it is the moment the back is lifted back up and nobody has room for their drink holder and all the contents of the center console get slammed into the bottom of the seat back.

Appreciate the dog/cuddle area quotes above so see the appeal for that camp as well.

At least the Scout has foot room. Our Ram has another console on the floor forcing the center person to play footsie with the passenger.

Reminds me of my first driving lessons on my father's 1964 Ford F100 farm pickup truck with 3 speed manual column shifter.

First time manual drive on a 3PD !

Talk about getting a full length left leg exercise with that truck clutch.

Curious how many members here plan to order front bench seating? I'm considering it myself though losing center console does lose some utility.

Lots of people have been asking for it for years on trucks but no manufacturer seems to want to offer it until now. Now that we have the option, I wonder what the take rate on it will be...

If you plan to get the front bench seat will it mostly be used to carry a passenger, dog or both?

There looks to be a lot of legroom up there for all three passengers. It helps that there’s no transmission tunnel running down the middle. Also, since it’s an EV, nobody has to worry about the awkward reach when it’s time to shift into second gear.​

It’s hard to know since these are still concepts with production not starting until 2027, but I believe I spy a full split between each chair. They could be independently adjustable and on the show model that’s displayed above, there are power controls on the side of the seats.​

Scout didn’t say but judging by the in-person photos, that middle chair folds down. If that’s the case, then it’ll surely pull double-duty as a cupholder when no one’s sitting there. You can have your sweetheart sitting right beside you or a Big Gulp. It’s a win-win either way.​

Looks like there's a storage drawer / tray with a handle underneath the middle bench seat also.

I think this is where I'm at. If the fold down part gives some space similar to this, I'd consider it; but I just like the way this has a ton of space in the middle. It's what attracts me to the interior of the new EV Hummers. Like the Hummers, I wish the Scouts offered REMOVABLE glass roof panels.

The real challenge will be achieving passenger safety ratings for center seat. airbags, shoulder belts are difficult to configure in that position.

I'll be getting the bucket seats. If Scout comes out with a tiny 2 door truck, something like an old S10 size, then I would definitely considers the bench seat.
