Having to package, haul around and maintain a gas electric generator (including of course a fuel tank, exhaust system, cooling system, etc) defeats one of the greatest benefits of an EV. Anyone with a Tesla knows how quickly you can supercharge; and more stations are coming on line every day. I would rather also buy a restored classic ICE Scout or a new Bronco along with a new Scout EV

Seems to me some of you really don't want an electric vehicle at all, but some kind of diesel, gas, propane hybrid with a 150 mile electric range. What a monstrosity. I'll stick with an all electric and 350 mile range any day.

Harvester will bring more people into the fold until battery tech improves. I'm all for choices. A 350 mile EPA rating could mean a real-world 270 mile range. Many EV's Don't come close to their EPA ratings (Tesla, Rivian, Ford, VW, Hyundai/Kia). But like many of us, I'm waiting to see exactly what the tech involved in the Harvester is.

Flex capacitor !! Most likely compatible to Koehler or Honda Generator set on vibrate bushings and sound deadening exhaust will be used to heat batteries during cold months and damper to change exhaust flow on hotter days. Hey remember your first remote control car ??

From what I’ve read, Rivians actually post ranges similar to their ratings whereas Tesla’s are mostly BS.
I guess it depends on how the vehicle is driven. My default source is Car and Driver, who puts vehicles through a 200 Mi test at a steady 75. A quad-motor R1S rated for 316 miles went only 230 miles@75 mph. The pickup went 220. When they tested the pickup with all season tires, it went 280 mi. That's a huge difference. The EPA combined figure is 55% city/45% highway. I'm sure Scout is doing everything they can to maximize range.

Since we don’t really have any info about the Harvester set up and can only assume it will be an air cooled version of a Volkswagen platform, wouldn’t it be cool if we could have it set up as a dual fuel engine. I’m just thinking how convenient propane would be for a lot of people. As someone who lives in Florida I am well acquainted with what happens when a storm rolls through and gas is tough to find. A couple propane tanks though you could store with out it turning to ethanol varnish and have an alternative. Any thoughts?
Part of the elegance of an electric vehicle is the simplicity it offers over an internal combustion engine, and I understand some folks desire to consider the harvester … but let’s not make it so technically complex I need another 6-years of college to figure it out.

Most of the preorders (81%) last I checked were choosing Harvester.
After the recent Hurricane Helene, and being without power for 2-3 states for more than a week, that is why I am going Harvester.

I’d picked the harvester but recently flipped over to all ev. I’ve got 25000 miles on my phev Volvo (35 mile battery), and it’s probably 90% all electric. If it was a 350 mile ev range then an extender for 150 I’d think about it, but I’m confident it could meet my needs on ev. Less to maintain, especially since there is not likely to be a repair station near me.

I can work on an old scout but I can pretty much guarantee you that the new one will be outside my wheelhouse. Just the amount of extended times I have been without electricity leads me to the harvester. I would just prefer propane due to ease of long term storage and the readily available supply even in a general loss of power situation

I have seen the discussions here that the smaller harvester battery will give estimate of 150 mile range and then the generator will get you 500 total (so 350 mile additional estimate). Either the original battery estimate is incorrect or the generator has to be very efficient to recharge the battery more than twice the original charge while driving. Will be interesting to see what information comes out from Scout in the next year.
I’ve been trying to find a reference for this 150 mile battery thing, but the closest thing I’ve been able to find was “the generator turns on after 150 miles”, which is obviously not the same. I just can’t imagine they would say the harvester version would have a slightly smaller battery and then put in a battery with almost 60% less range.

I see it more like...the EV only range is 250 miles....and if you've enabled the harvester for range extension, it would kick on around 150 miles to keep the battery charged with a healthy buffer.

I chose the harvester for a few reasons.

1. long family get togethers with people who dont have home chargers.

2. Christmas travel between having to hop around grandparents sonce its a family tradition.

3. Fishing trips

4. im a gearhead and liquid gold burning engines are my work.

Now lets do the math. To find the other 80% to find the true battery range.
