According to a Scout employee, the smallest wheel that fits currently is an 18" wheel. I assume "currently" means unless/until they re-engineer for the production 2027 Scout.

How many would prefer an even smaller size than that (like a 17" wheel) for more meat? Or are most of you going 18" or bigger?

Dang, that's pretty disappointing. I was really hoping to be able to get a 17 inch on there. Need more sidewall for the trails I run.

I sure hope they go with a 17" rim.. 35's, or even 37's for that matter, look great on 17's.

Honestly, I’m perfectly happy with 18’s! I was expecting 20” wheels would be the smallest.

I would prefer the 17" wheel as there are more tire choice.

For those going with the Terra, are you optioning the spare tire carrier in the truck bed? I believe that only a 33" will fit under the truck bed. And for those optioning the Harvester, then the spare might be deleted altogether to accommodate the engine.

Yeah that was my assumption as well as it looks like the engine will be where a spare would go under there. Has that been confirmed though?

Yea, 17s would be great since you can deflate more but 18s are satisfactory IMO. 18s are certainly better than the 20s we get on Rivians.

This is going to be a heavy vehicle - and while it will have regenerative braking, it will still need some serious brakes to stop quickly. My LJ is a LOT lighter (probably thousands of pounds lighter), and many people accepted the trade offs to go to 17" wheels to get larger discs in their brakes that are more resistant to fading due to heat.

I’d say most people who truly off-road their vehicles prefer 17s for the larger sidewall. Better for airing down and flexibility. Tire size options might also be an issue (with 18s) as someone already mentioned.

And while we’re on the subject, a true 35x12.5 tire would be preferable to a narrower metric “35”.

Have 3 vehicles on 17s wrapped in 35s and love the extra sidewall for off-roading. Given the weight of these EVs compared to our ICE 4x4s, they have to carry large braking systems. Shocked they even offer an 18".

For everyone who uses high regen braking on their EV, you know you can drive 99% of the time without ever touching the brakes. I used to stare at the large brakes on our Rivian wondering why the hell they are so big given they are rarely used.

Last week, a car pulled out in front of us on a remote highway while we were going 60. The R1S locked up the brakes and slid sideways a bit trying not to destroy the tiny Honda Civic.

Our Rivian packed out from vacation was closing in on 9K lbs. I'm stooked to get 18s!!!

I'm driving a 4-cyl Defender with 18" wheels; they've worked fine when I air down on rocky Pennsylvania trails. And I find lots of choices for tires at that size (stock is 255/70/18; you can easily fit 265/70/18). The 6-cyl comes with bigger brakes and 19" or 20" wheels - 19" is the orphan size with very few tire options, so let's hope Scout avoids those.

At any rate, 18" has worked fine for a heavy vehicle aired down off road...

17” would be preferable if it’s going to really off road. Based on what I’ve seen there really isn’t enough capability in these to need the extra tire.

I am fine with 18", although a 17" option wouldn't be a bad thing. I definitely want a full size spare on the Terra with the Harveste.
