If the towing capacity is really only 5K with Harvester, that is a terrible disappointment and takes the truck off my list. Almost 100% of the towing we do is over 5k with towing distances & available travel times not suitable for a pure EV application.
I could make do perhaps at 8k but would...
Edb,
For sure some of that could be within an optional, reasonable cost, towing tech package. I'd expect items 1. & 2. along with an appropriate class IV or V hitch to be the minimum part of standard equipment.
It will be interesting to see what sorts of towing technology is included or available when the these hit the market. As a minimum, I'd expect:
proper trailer brake controls, with options to save multiple trailer settings
least 4 & 7 pin trailer wiring connectors
TPMS for trailer tires...
Up to an hour is probably OK. I tend to do most maintenance & repair work myself. So unless there is free scheduled maintenance for some initial period, a warranty issue or something I can't fix myself, I won't be taking it places for service.
Looks interesting. I am concerned about the massive amount of reflection in all of the display panel surfaces. I really like the real buttons for many functions.
Trailer aero will play a significant role in power consumption. Towing an open car trailer cuts mileage on my ICE truck by 15-20%. When towing our enclosed trailer it is a 40-50% drop. Folks I've talked to that are towing with Rivian or Lightning are seeing a range of 80-125 miles.
I've driven a number of late model VW Group rentals and the headlights were not all that great, well below the performance of the LED headlights in our 8 year old JCW MINI, which is my baseline minimum acceptable level of performance.
That is all really nice looking. But, in reality, all I care about is how well the headlights illuminate things down the road and what sort of optional off-road lighting might be offered. Or what mounting points and prewiring will be on-board for adding quality off-road lighting. If the stock...
I consider an integrated trailer brake control a must have. I really expect it to have all the modern towing towing tools, including mirrors suitable for towing, trailer camera feeds and trailer tire pressures. I could care less about the rotary knob trailer backing feature available on the...
As for the lights, I am more concerned with how well they actually work. A lot of modern vehicles have cool lights with mediocre performance. Crisp cutoffs for good glare control while having excellent spread and fill on low beam with great range added on high beam are my expectations.
I too have placed an order for the Terra Harvester. We pull an enclosed car trailer which checks in at about 8500 pounds when fully loaded for endurance races. Almost always being constrained for travel times makes frequent stops for charging a non-starter, so the gas engine charrging system...
