NACS Charge Port Location

So it appears the NACS port is located on the driver's side rear of both vehicles. I don't currently own an EV but if you are trying to charge at a Tesla Supercharger isn't that location a particular PITA? Say what you will about TSLA and their founder (and believe me I could say a LOT, so don't get me started) the Supercharger network is at least one thing that they did really right and it's currently the most available and most reliable charging network around. Actual EV drivers, please correct me or offer pointers/tips on how folks deal with this. Is it as simple as backing into the charging space (I hope)? I only bring it up as I was recently reading an article/review from someone driving a non-Tesla EV (who mostly liked the vehicle) and they recounted the difficulties they faced at Supercharger locations trying to jockey for position. Like I say, not currently an EV driver and not trying to create a thing here, just genuinely curious after noticing this location choice on the Scout. Thanks! Tesla vehicles have their charging port drivers side rear.
Vehicles with the port on a front fender above the wheel, or directly in front of the door have difficulty as well as vehicles with the port on the passenger side.


Hopefully by 2026/2027, other brands of charging stations will have added nacs cables. Although you can also use an adapter.

Driver side rear should be a good location when backing into a Tesla station; Tesla ports are in the same spot.

Driver's side rear is awesome for Supercharger compatibility.

Any rear charge port location SUCKS for trailer towing. There are almost no pull-through stations so far. The left-side side-saddle Superchargers would work but that's only one per station and not all stations are set up with one. That means you have to disconnect your trailer.

I wish Scout had gone with passenger side front.

Agreed (for towing purposes). More pull-through Tesla Supercharger stations are starting to appear, so hopefully by 2027 they will be much more common.

They just opened a new charge only station with 30 spots, all pull thru here in California, another 9 stations are planned. These 'Charging Plazas' also have a snack bar, bathrooms, lounge, waiting room, and play area for kids. I will just install a charger inside left in my garage. I have a 6KW solar system and have room to enlarge it if needed.

I really hope Scout considers those of us who tow and goes with a Front Passenger side port instead. That will allow us to pull forward into a Tesla Supercharger without issue, and leave a trailer behind us without taking up another charging spot. It also gives us flexibility to pull in from the side and use up one charging space and block some side parking spaces if need be. We can also still pull forward into an of the other traditional charging stations without issue.

Leaving it on the rear driver side means we have to disconnect the trailer every time we charge, or block multiple charging spaces by pulling in sideways and getting close enough to the rear.

Alternatively, I hope Tesla comes out with their extension cable for the Supercharger if Scout sticks with the driver rear charging location.

It also seems like they didn't consider the 12.5" wide tire + mount hanging off the back of the Traveler. That is going to push the port position pretty far from the Supercharger. It's not clear to me if it'll be an actual issue, but it's not anywhere near as close as the vehicles that were built to meet the 2 meter cable length.

I think we'll be OK - the Cybertruck's charging port is further forward (right on the driver rear wheel well) so it seems comparable to the extra distance being created by the spare tire carrier.

Happy to hear the port will be on the same location as Tesla.

My current EV is a Ford Mach E and it's tough to find a furthest right hand charging tower or handicap space to avoid taking up 2 chargers/stalls.

Would love to back into the Tesla charger location even with the spare tire on the rear....

Having a NACS port on any BEV purchase is critical and the driver side rear is the best location. As a Tesla owner, the Supercharger network is the best reason to buy Tesla and adhering to the thousands of Supercharger cabinets by not taking up 2 (or more) charging stalls in important. As BEV adoption increases this issue will become more troublesome. I hold a low reservation number for a Scout pickup and will be selling my Tesla Model X which is my placeholder for the promised 2027 Scout.

If the Scout is delayed I will be looking at other options and charging port location is a big deal. The supercharger experience is what makes BEV ownership work and kudos to the Scout team for taking the huge and successful Supercharger network into their design considerations.

Agree here, but fun fact, with the CT and 2 dirt bikes in the back (tailgate down) - the cable doesn't reach unless I take up 2 spaces or get lucky and get a charger in a unique / uncommon location (it's happened twice) - Tesla knows they need longer cables, guessing either retrofits or V4's will address, but that will take a while!
