D2C is the future or at least it will be some variation. The days of dealing with 25 year old kids trying to tell me about a truck/car is so outdated at this point, change is inevitable.

but without dealer/customer interaction, how will these kids learn about the cars?

Bluey's parents drive an LC 70 series.....I have a 4 year old, I'm practically friends with Bandit and Chili.

VW doesn't have a leg to stand on. Scout, it it's current form, has never been sold to the consumers. Therefore, dealers cannot argue they have the rights to sell a new franchisee.

Well let's look at what lies ahead. You currently have California dealers filing a class action suit against Scout claiming they are being denied access to scout brand. VW heavily invested in Rivian and Scout. Looking ahead the auto industry isn't exactly flourishing. Nissan merging with Honda and most EV makers are struggling for market share and battery development. Scout is refreshing but they are going to need additional funding to build out national distribution centers as well as service and mobile service and that means parts availability etc. so me i'm having lunch with the guys who already wrote me a check because I know they already have in place what I need. Money brick and mortar buildings and trained staff. So before I meet them in court how about a round of golf and let's see if you can be a partner not a problem. But like I said we just got engaged let's meet each other's families and see where we want to spend Christmas.

Dealer Reps are going to become Radio DJ's their aren't going to be many good ones but the ones that do survive will be enthusiast and knowledgeable. Direct to consumer whoever perfects the human touch and painless service will be the true winner. Scout has promise to be that star.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't agree with the dealer model anymore. I'm tired of dealer mark-ups and pushy finance departments trying to throw extended warranties down your throat. Not being able to get financing rates until you've already invested 3 to 4 hours negotiating on trade-in, new car value, test driving, etc.

IF, Scout can work out an agreement where the dealerships are more like an experience center. Where you come to test drive and chat about the product, then I can get on board with VW dealerships having some sales rights.

Are you going to walk into a Honda dealership and buy Hondas , Acura, Nissan and Infinity they are going to be centralized super centers linguistically located to also fulfill online orders. Dealerships will become mini auto mall's you'll have your financing done before you arrive they know they have to adapt

No it won't but they will and are consolidating average price at 50 k they will become Marriot's you'll get reward points to use towards service etc. You'll be going to dealerships to watch football games while your car gets serviced vip's will even have lockers. In house financing home equity loans etc. Hey we're having a fantasy draft party all Mazdas are discounted 20% during draft day hurry special financing and food bring your trade we will appraise your trade while you enjoy a free coupon for basket of our famous wings. You buy we drive whose new car is that in driveway did Eagles win ???
