My plan is to get an island beach state park permit to take my traveler on the beach. Since island beach state park is on 30minutes from me.

What percentage of Scouts will be subjected to serious off roading ?? I think majority will be used as family SUV's charged at home 85% of time
I'd agree with that and it's probably would be true of mine. But the 10% of the time I need the range extender to not be seriously inconvenienced or have to rearrange my trip, I want that flexibility from my very expensive truck.

It might make more theoretical sense for me to have a BEV town car and an ICE pick up. But the inconvenience of dual vehicle storage, licensing, and insurance makes that unattractive. As for renting I might do that if it was for business reasons because I'm getting paid in some way. But when I'm vacationing especially a quick weekender, or doing a house project I don't want to deal with renting and picking up an unfamiliar vehicle and the added irregular expense. Half the time I would probably just say screw it and not do that activity.

the reason I am getting the harvester is as follows:

my daily commute to work is 120 miles. I cannot charge at work, but would be able to charge in the evenings at home.

additionally I do rent a pick up truck for hunting season, when temps can be at a sustained 20F (I know that's nothing for some of y'all). it's a crap shoot every year, size bed, model of vehicle, is it gas or diesel, how will I jam my stuff into it, do I pay an extra premium and be allowed to tow with it. getting the harvester will provide the piece of mind that I can haul my gear uphill and park the rig for a ten days w/out having to worry about the battery draining out because of cold and the energy it took to get to the site/potential drive arounds while up on the hill.

my hope, is I can stay in EV mode going to work (yes? w/the ~150mi range) and only use the generator on the big trips.

I would swap to full EV if I could have some fidelity around the hunting scenario outlined above...however, there are not (currently) many charging opportunities prior to leaving for the hills where I hunt. we'll see what the infrastructure looks like in two years, though.

If you don't want to believe some random guy on the internet, here is an example of a Jeep 4xe that got 27 mies under electric power on the paved road and 3.5 miles off roading.
I watched this when they first aired it. This is outdated and incorrect data. Out of Spec, charged overland, and many others have better data points using Rivian R1T and R1S. The Wrangler 4xe is severely underpowered in EV mode compared to a true BEV, which means it has to work much harder. Out of Spec states in the CES Scout video that when off-roading you actually use very little energy. For BEV vehicles, air resistance is actually the primary electron suck. When traveling at low speeds, like on a forest service road, you’re going to be using hardly any energy.

The Dodge Ramcharger looks interesting, though it has a small battery at 92-KWh but have a V6 generator is a great backup. The only big issue, for me, is it's a Stellantis product and they are just not good, in almost any way. Build quality, reliability, etc., The Ramcharger is looking really interesting with their 'targeted' ranges and power, will have to wait and see what is actually delivered and tested.
Yet the uniformed masses can’t get enough of them.
