EV Tax Credit Likely Gone, Tariffs Next? Are you still a Scout buyer without $7500 tax credit?

Hate to say it but most likely the trim levels that will be offered right out of the gate would not qualify in the first place. I’m anticipating that for at least my house it will be a $80k rig and will be over the limit for the ev tax credit guidelines.

The credits are nice, I got two MYPs last year and two full credits.
We will find out pricing soon (12-18 months) and what each trim level gives I was told by Jamie from Scout today. They are also very dedicated to that 50k and 51k starting prices.

I have watch a you tube blogger indicating that the electric range of a hybrid will be about 200 miles plus the ICE. Is there any truth to it?

For that i believe being that ive worked on Hybrids, it all depends on battery and how much the engine outputs. Being that the scout will be using VW’s latest engine that will debut in 2026 that will probably be what Scout will use. I think the hybrid will get 500 and the ev will get 350 so exactly what Scout is saying but the EPA has to do their testing to find the true range. Its possible scout is planning on using new battery technology but we wont know until next year most likely.

if i can squeeze it out of Jamie i will report back lol!

While credits are nice, I think what this administration should do is eliminate the incredibly high CEO pays and the board members. If that happens companies will have more money left and they won't have to charge this much for products. Just my two cents, this is just economy to me, not politics. :)

Low key agree with you CEOs get paid to sit on there as$es all day. Not sayinf that Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Scott him self, ect. Did work their ways up to where they are but they shouldn’t be paid billions for no reason.

I think he will allow the tax. Credit to only made in America Ev’s. For the same reason for the tariffs it’s to stop Chinese Ev’s that have tendency to blow up to come in at ultra low prices that will also hurt the US economy.

I'm also talking with Jamie about this exact situation at the moment will update when he gets back.
Update to this: Jamie has Spoken and said they havent been told about it yet and it seems to be a rumor that is spreading around. But will probably not happen at anypoint.

From a former tax professional. The large print giveth, the small print taketh away. More than likely, I would not have been getting the credit anyway. If anything, removing the credit will probably make the vehicle less expensive to me.

I agree with you. It would probably force the manufacturers to lower prices I think.

I don't qualify for the credit so it's a non issue for me personally - I think the credits going away are a great thing because I believe they unfairly gave Tesla an advantage as their pricing is already lower than anyone else could hope to go, but then they qualify for the credit. They are established and have already benefitted from a lot of government assistance. I don't want them to get any more. And now it's a conflict of Interest with Elon's involvement with this administration.

Yes, still in. I will need a new truck in the next couple years as a daily driver/work truck. I don't need a 4-door but I would like a larger bed and 300 mile range. And I would prefer a truck priced in the under $60k range.

Although the credit would have been nice, Scout will have to factor its availability into the final pricing. What I'm looking for is if the total net cost to me represents enough value as the vehicle is equipped. It may be a good enough value as-is without the credit at all, or with a pricing adjustment to cover some or all of it. Of course market competition will be a factor, and three years is an eternity in the car market; a lot can happen between now and then. Honestly main thing I'm concerned with at this point is the overall financial health of the mothership. Any austerity and expense control measures will trickle down into all divisions, which can negatively influence product. Hopefully how Scout is structured can put them one step further removed, but it won't be totally immune.

The EV tax credit may go away. Are you still a buyer? Will the auto companies absorb some of this in the form of lower prices. Typically i think subsidies generally raise prices, not lower them.
My perspective as well. Moreover, there is still time for Scout to adjust the vehicles and design in the lower price point if they choose to do so. Either way, I am still in the market and will compare options available at that time. Plus a potentially unique item -- a ranch bumper... a friend of mine ran into a deer day before yesterday evening and his F150 is going to be in the shop for a month... A proper bumper is a must have item for me.

If Scout hit the price targets they have announced, the tax credit should be irrelevant as it is in line with, or cheaper, than comparable ICE vehicles. I leased an ID.4 because of the credit and the ridiculous discounts VW had on them last year, but it will have no influence on the Scout purchase. Getting it would just be a bonus.
