Jamie@Scout's latest word on start of production:

...and we made a pivot to include a range extender which is significant.
I didn't know the original plan was for only pure EV. I'm glad they added the range extender. For my uses, I need a PHEV or REEV. Given the high percent of folks on this forum who are reporting they've reserved a Scout with the range extender, it was a brilliant move by Scout.

I mean…not completely surprised. Even if they did start production in the summer, it will take a while to get a decent amount of units complete. 2028 sounds like a more realistic time of when some owners will begin receiving their vehicles. Early Traveler reservations will likely be at the front of the line.

I figure I won't see anything until sometime in 2028. In the meantime I will be looking for a vehicle to fill my needs and can make a decision when production begins and I 'get the call' ;) Likely at least 3-4 years away.

Honestly, if I was not building a new house - I should be looking for a short term vehicle now. I have anticipatedly waited for several vehicles in the past only to be completely let down by them. In some way, that is an overstatement - 2 have not reached production yet (and I seriously doubt ever will), the third was released and was a serious disappointment. I can hope for the best - but do I really want to wait to be disappointed again.

But I have to be honest with myself - there are a lot of specifics that might fail to be met that will completely disappoint. Range, price, date. All 3? What about driver assist - that one took a beating 2 days ago with optical only.

I have 3 years to decide if I can wait I guess. And worse yet - how much will purchasing something else in the mean time actually cost? If I did not really hate driving cars - I should just get a Tesla while I am waiting. It's not like I will need to wait till the mid 2030's till we get better batteries.

I mean really. Reading that EV companies brag about the batteries lasting the life of the vehicle - then saying that is 150k miles. How 1990's. A vehicle only lasting 150k miles is complete shit. I own 3 vehicles that are about 300k. That should be the new normal - 300k is midlife.

Does 'late 2027' constitute a 2nd delay vs.

"when the production EVs start rolling off the South Carolina line in 2026" ?
https://www.carscoops.com/2024/09/vw-owned-scout-motors-confirms-oct-24-launch-date-for-new-evs/

"Production is scheduled to kick off in 2026, with the Scout vehicles set to be built in a new $2 billion factory" ?
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a62046454/scout-motors-ev-reveal-teaser/

Perhaps the reveal event simply coincided w/ design freeze and/or groundbreaking? But starting to seem a bit premature in a VW kind of way. Hopefully Scout takes advantage of this time by leveraging feedback from all the auto-experts on this board.
