“We set up the factory in a way that contract manufacturing is possible for other VW brands, or whoever is interested,” Petri said at an Oct. 24 presentation after the introduction of the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup concepts here.

The brand can also produce additional Scout models at the factory, Petri said. At a presentation, Scout displayed a partially covered vehicle rendering. The brand has not confirmed vehicles beyond the Traveler and the Terra.

Scout CEO Scott Keogh told Automotive News in December that the brand would launch output of the SUV first and then the pickup. It’s unclear if that’s still the plan. Keogh also said there are opportunities for VW brands to utilize the Scout platform.

None of this should be a surprise to anyone.

I’m hoping they are too busy making Scouts to make other vehicles. Really don’t want the forever waiting lists that plagued the Bronco and the Land Cruiser.

It's not surprising. The plant has a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year. To be profitable, automotive plants must operate as close to max output as possible. Audi might benefit from a Defender competitor. Perhaps they could build Scouts for Australia?

Maybe the ID Buzz could turn into a real road trip vehicle instead of the relatively short range one it is now.

I was hoping that VW dealers would service these. So no go for me. Tired of the Boston trips for my Rivian.

Scout could end up building a store/service center close to you? Doesn't make sense to drop out even before they announce their locations.

I agree, I live 30 miles East of Sacramento, so expect a center fairly close, and with 80% of repairs being done OTA and via mobile repair units I'm not worried about service.

It takes years, Tesla just opened a “ show room”, because of VT laws. Rumor is Rivian in maybe two years. Why not use a network already in place? I like the Scout, but enough to leave my Rivian.

Maybe Rivian can get an early start on R3/R3x with VW as their plant is still in development.
