Seems crazy to speculate over what it means when we have zero visibility on the agreements that have been made between Scout and Rivian.

True, but given these products are nearly three years out that's kind of the point of this entire forum, at least for now. I stand by my earlier statement though. Rivian has been to date so committed to BEVs that it's only logical to conclude they're just providing software development support, given what the public knows.

I agree with you, because we have plenty of evidence based on Rivian's track record. My comment is mainly directed at Timmy's speculations.

I think the customer bases are just different enough that it won't create a competition issue.
I feel and certainly hope that this is the case. I would never buy a Rivian over a Scout as long as they deliver something very close to what they’ve shown us so far and I’m a Rivian shareholder (unfortunately). The solid rear axle, rear mounted full size spare tire and other off-road oriented features along with their looks are exactly what I’ve been waiting for in an EV.

A Rivian Executive lives in our neighborhood.
2 Of them parked out front.

Feel bad the company struggles at times.
I don't want one nor a Cybertruck.

The Scout is an amazing creation.
Worth the wait.

Well speculation is what this forum has become. On every Scout community on Reddit thats all that the comments say. Is that this forum is all speculation. Which is false, about five of us give information and put a few speculation. And this is a topic we can speculate about since ewe have no idea why Rivian has one. But as on what plenty of people have and which whom i agreed with it seem to be for R&D and for software development.

Robbie Gordons Speed Car was years behind deliveries and anxious buyers got pretty worked up in the off road forums.
They took it out on each other over petty observations that grew into big accusations.

Permanent bans were flying like confetti.
Ease up gents.

Here’s my guess; Rivian is providing the zonal architecture and the software, this stands to reason that Rivian is just using the tester to build the code. The R1, R2, and R3 are all BEV without any generator capabilities. Rivian will need to have one on long term loan to fully integrate the software and hardware. If Scout launches with shitty software the entire industry will know the blame lies with Rivian.

Rivian builds a hell of a product, being able to offer software and architecture to other manufactures could be a serious cash flow for them. They’re probably hoping to use the Scout to showcase their capabilities and flexibility.

omg bros got hella money, i honestly can’t see Rivian doing anything with gas.
i actually think you’re correct. I think Rivian is just doing zonal architecture testing and I’m skeptical they will use gas. However, now that we all see 80% of scout reservation holders have harvester, and that EV demand is only slowly growing, Rivian might be considering it.

Rivian Zonal Architecture is top tier so seeing that Scout chose them to build it for them is a good teaching for Scouts Engineers. And I’m sure that the Harvester requires extra attention and time due to its complexity with the zonal structure.

After seeing and reading everyone’s comments i think we all have a good understanding of why they have it. I think yesterday was a bit nerve racking hearing it. I truly think Scout should have a talk with the YouTubers.

If they do that, it cuts out the hand wringing and 'sky is falling' posts and the excitement wears off. They have to keep the interest high until they are rolling off the line. Once they start getting delivered, that will renew desire and there will be another spike in orders.

Very true didn’t think about that.

Since Scout is going to use Rivian architecture - it makes sense for Rivian to have a test mule. That said, who knows what has been discussed behind the closed doors. IIRC, BMW and probably Mercedes have sold power plants to other car manufacturers over the years. Indirectly, so has VW (back in the day, you could still get a new flat 4 for your sand rails). If it is a good fit for both companies, I have no problem with Scout making a profit out of selling Rivian Harvesters. More on the road will only help the service base (someone will need to work on them, better to have a shit ton out there so service and repairs are easy to find - rather than shipping the motor (and maybe the car) somewhere else for work.

If you look up Rivians Stance on Gas. Theya re firmly against it. Most likely this is to help Scout out with Zonal Architecture and Software for the Harvesterz
