So we know that Scout EV will be sold via direct sale to customer and not going through VW dealerships. Instead there'll be Scout Motors showrooms where you can see/sit in the vehicles, test drive and order vehicle in person if you want.

So presumably, we won't be able to have our Scouts repaired / serviced at VW dealerships and will have to visit Scout service centers instead.

Which begs the questions -- will all the Scout showrooms also be service centers? How fast and how many showroom/service centers will Scout be building throughout the country?

This is one of the issues that Rivian has had to deal with -- not enough service centers to deal with the amount of volume, leading to long waits for repairs.

They should work out a deal with VW service centers. That $5B is going to go pretty quick if they have to build out dozens of service hubs across the country, fill them with parts and staff. I understand the vehicles are supposed to be more serviceable, but mobile support can only handle so much.

Driving up to Oxnard yesterday off on the Highway 101, I saw an Navistar/International truck dealer. It came to mine that these dealers which are on edges of most towns might be the most likely service centers. No fuss no mess, all ready to rock and roll. Here is the link to the dealer locations. Easy to get to and these were probably the same dealers that serviced the Scouts back in the ‘60s.

Since I am in a very rural area of Maine I'd like to know if Scout is going to be publishing a factory service manual that users buy to service their Scouts. Also will the Scout have a standarized OBDII port or will everything be over WiFi to the far away service center. I know most of the Scout will be computerzied (which I don't mind as I have a degree in computers) but it would be great if the owner can do some troubleshooting without having to get towed to a service center many many miles away.

I too am wondering this. I live in BFE North East Texas. With the major cities being all 3 hours away, unless they plan on building a center in Shreveport or Texarkana.

I take a lot of pride in maintaining my fleet, I’d like to be able to service my Harvester Terra in my shop. As someone who’s going to be first time hybrid owner, it does scare me a bit if I’m not able to even work on it at all.

They've claimed 80% of components being user serviceable.

I'm never had to replace any ev component, haven't had anything but software issues that were all dealt with via OTA updates.
