Running miles is how GM does (did) it. Not sure how they factor in when the car isn't moving while the engine running. Doesn't happen often but every so often it will cycle the engine at stops if the battery is near depleted. An hour meter makes sense too, probably more so.

I haven’t stayed on top of Rivian. What “route” are you talking about?
I mean, if Scout only offered a pure EV and dropped the gas assist harvester.

If we have to do all that maintenance, then just forgo the generator. Give two options: full EV or gas. That would probably be the most economical, right?

I was sold on the range extender, I’m not a fan of full EV. I could / would keep my reservation for an all gas option. But if Scout goes the Rivian route, I’m out… Unfortunately.
Why are you not a fan of BEV? Is your daily drive more than 300 miles/day? Do you tow long distances often? Do you go off-road long distances? Is home charging not an option?

Just trying to understand the logic.

Every 100 hours I change the oil on my generators. Every 1000 hrs change the plug(s).

I understand it'll have the LFP battery(s), (correct that if I'm wrong) that can stand lots of re charging and can charge to 100% all the time and so forth.

Some YouTubes with LFP car UBER drivers that take advantage of it, but say it's not all that, but then again they are really hard on their EV's batteries.

For me personally it's not about disliking or even not preferring BEV, it's about having options. We're probably going to replace our X3 with an iX when time comes, but at least one vehicle in the household will have to use gasoline as a fuel source because of its pervasiveness. Just in case. And if my gas vehicle can be an EREV all the better, and that's where the Terra comes in.

All I know is when the sh&t really hits the fan and there are mile long lines at the gas station, I can fill up a BEV from my solar panels, but I can’t make gas myself (although my wife would beg to differ). For me, a BEV is about resiliency in times of disaster or economic strife, both of which seem to be increasing in frequency.

I get your logic, but I guess if that really concerned me, I'd just invest in a whole house propane or diesel generator that could run my home charger too. ;-)

Well, unless you had a field of solar panels or a bank of batteries those solar panels kept fully charged, it would take you a helluva lot of days (weeks?) to *fill up* your BEV from the usual number of home solar panels considering the output of solar panels vs the size of the Scout BEV battery pack.

In my head an EREV provides that same capability with more flexibility since it can be charged off of solar/generator/grid and can use fuel if the former isn’t available.

No real logic to understand. I like options, and, I’m not a fan of full EVs. I also don’t like cars and prefer SUVs… LoL

Hell, I passed in the new Toyota LC250 for many reasons, but the main reason was the lack of engine options.

FWIW, I had a similar mindset although I was a diehard truck and/or 6k+ lbs SUV person preferably V8 or super charged and/or twin turbo V6; however, my daily r/t commute is 100+ miles and my Audi Q7 premium unleaded only monthly gas bill was ~$650-$750.

Then, I read about Rivan's plans to build a *real* quad-motor BEV truck/SUV instead of a mars-rover-looking poser BEV pseudo-truck and when I read it's max range was 300+ miles and did 0-60 in 3s as well as handle itself off-road, I was *all-in* and plopped my $1K deposit down and waited 27 months to get my R1S.

Now, it's been almost 4 months of my R1S being in the body shop after getting rear-ended and me having to drive the wife's old paid-for 2014 Ford Expedition (215k+ miles), I HATE HATE HATE having to stop at a gas station every 4 days to fill up, since it only has about a 400 mile range due to the 15 mpg it gets. SMH

Then today, I had to drop the Expedition off for a full synthetic oil change and thermostat replacement ($792) as well as my old Q7 that my daughter now drives at college for another full synthetic oil change ($100+).

So, after not having to stop at a gas station for 18+ months, nor change any oil, nor service/repair any coolant system, my decision to go full BEV has been validated OVER AND OVER and I'm NEVER BUYING AN ICEV EVER AGAIN!

Just my $0.02, but something to consider.

To me I absolutely disdain BEVs. Every vehicle should be a Hybrid/Flex Fuel Vehicle. ICE Engines are awfully clean, but they are already set to run on Methanol or Ethanol or any combo of the two and or gasoline. But the best part of Methanol is it is made from carbon capture technology. So you are actully carbon negative in a regular ICE vehicle running Methanol. We could be off fossil fuels at month end. But we lack the courage. Elon showed EV's can be fun, and fast as hell for the money. I mean you need a million dollars to beat the Plaid S in the Quarter. That's you're template. Now ditch the "Frunk!" and put in a high revving I6 in there and you bring back the passion of the engine noise, you end the range debate and fears, you never plug it in and every mile you drive sequestures carbon. By jacking with BEVs you are hurting the situation not helping.
