Forums can represent a whole bunch of use cases. While some owners here will go off-road, many will never venture farther than the local Costco parking lot. Its n those cases, and other local maneuvering where 4WS shines. I'd love it as an option but I don't think it's likely.

Without a doubt it will come with cost being that the whole rear solid axle has to be reengineered to steer.

Air suspension, Heads up display , nice nav and audio along with nice finishes and current safety features. But for the wilderness explorers could not the gas range extender also act as your campsite power too ??

I want the cheapest, simplest, easiest to market, lowest cost to build, operate, and maintain truck I can get.

I want 300 milesrange, 2k payload, 10k towing with rubber floors and the most basic interior ever.

I second that, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen because the company needs to market to the to the largest potential pool of buyers. I'm pretty sure we (the fans of spartan interiors) are a pretty rare breed in this market segment. As far as the original poster's question goes. While it's cool in theory, I'm not sure it's worth the effort/cost. I'm pretty sure the turning radius of these vehicles will be pretty tight.

There are other things at play such as tire size, etc, but based on our current vehicles, one could draw a conclusion that the Traveler may have a decent turning radius, and the Terra may be as bad or worse than a lightning.

I agree with the complexity and cost, can't avoid that when adding features. With that said, there is a precedent with it being used on large, heavy, towing capable vehicles. GM has gone all-in on Silverado, Sierra and Hummer EV, Tesla added it to the Cybertruck.

GM had Quadrasteer in the early 2000's.

Heavy equipment has it all over.

Bronco implemented a "lock one wheel and mash the gas to do a 90 degree turn" feature because they recognized the need for nimble maneuvering in tight spots.

Size / weight of vehicle actually drives the need higher and there doesn't seem to be a large correlation between this feature and towing capabilities. It's a maturing technology across many vehicle segments (including passenger cars) so reliability should be good.

Many vehicles have four-wheel steering, but it is designed in, and the cost shows it. Trying to add four-wheel steering to an electric axle/motor combo that wasn't originally designed for it seems to me to be asking for problems.

Turning radius is the number one complaint I have about the Lightning (well maybe #2 after software). I don't think is going to be an issue on the Traveler which is a big part of why I am excited about it. I don't need a full size truck but I do need a full size interior; I walked away from the Bronco because my shoulder rubbed the B-pillar.

I’m surprised to see such negative responses to this type of feature. My 21 Bronco has great turning radius and honestly It’s a feature I’d require for any vehicle I’d consider purchasing. Who wants to do 3 point turns with a U-turn? Just saying.

You don't need all wheel steer to make a U turn.

120 years of vehicles, 99.9999% of which had no 4 wheel steering options, have done the earth just fine.

Most companies, especially on the dealer model (Stellantis... Looking at you), allow dealers to order whatever they want, and the dealer orders the highest markup package 549A with bidet seats and bluetooth tailgates...

Line item ordering and building, really sn't a thing and hasn't been in decades.

Hopefully, with no dealer sticking his fingers in the pie, Scout can deliver simple basic reliable EV's, because that's where the market is now. 70k Lightnings are clogging up the lots becaus eno one wants to pay that much now, the people who did, have them.

For me, the best part of a solid read axle is no CVs. I definitely would prefer it stays that way. Now a system that locks up the rear inner brake at full lock while off-road, I’m good with that.

It's a solution looking for a problem and I wouldn't buy a vehicle that had it.
