I'm hoping Scout does this right and uses a clean sheet design for the engine and generator. I hope the plans are not to repurpose a corporate VW car engine. Powering just a generator can allow for a more efficient combustion cycle and lighter weight engine to maximize heat loss.
That's my hope too, but I think little chance the Harvester engine won't be a VW engine. First, the decision to add an EREV model was made late in development, which means they likely just picked a VW engine off the shelf. Second, it'd cost so much more money to develop a ground-up in-house motor rather than picking an already existing VW engine.

Harvester Traveler SUV pre-ordered! Who else? I'm sooo stoked we got an EREV option. Didn't even expect that as a possibility... I'm dizzy with delight right now 😵

Did anyone here expect Harvester EREV as a possibility? Maybe the rumor was out there but I just wasn't paying attention enough.
I love the idea of being able to use the vehicle as a generator at a campsite or when the power goes out. Can bring gas to it or drive to refuel.

Just posted more detail on the other Harvester thread, so will just summarize on this one. I also haven't read thru all 7 pages, so hopefully this hasnt already been argued to death. It is my hope that Scout is watching these boards as they appear to be listening to their potential buyer base.

I have the range extender option reserved, but will drop it if the option doesn't allow the Scout to function similar to my first generation Chevy Volt. This car was literally two cars in one and would allow me to operate the vehicle fully on gas independent of charging. I have been an EV owner now for 13 years and have seen the excitement/openness ebe and flow so fully believe that tech is needed again to help win over remaining folks that are hesitant to go the full EV route (like I eventually did thanks to my experience with the Volt). Scout has a great opportunity to so something that no one else is doing as let's face it, most folks that were willing to try this new tech have already done so, causing EV sales to drop. Scout can really help reverse this.

My other concern is the loss of some of that pure EV performance (acceleration and range), which some is understandable. I think the question will simply be how much. Guess we will have to wait and see and maybe some of these discussions will help drive final design.
