I cannot imagine for one second that an EV brand is going to associate itself with anything diesel. That is quite literally the polar opposite of an EV brands ethos.

well Gas or Diesel hurts the EV brand so might as well select the best fit, what ever that may be. I have a Cyber Beast, I'm supporting the EV Brand...now I want more range flexibility! :cool:

As the owner of a Ram Ecodiesel 110% for diesel from an efficiency standpoint. Emission standards aren't going away, but for a powerplant to strictly be used as a generator there's got to be a way. It would be huge.

In case Scout employees look here. Another vote for Diesel and maximum possible battery with harvester. 150 mile range on battery is too low.

By liter, diesel produces more CO2 over gas but considering diesel is more fuel efficient and produces more energy per unit, diesel ultimately reduces CO2 emissions compared to gas by double digit percentages. I would venture to say that a brand looking to be both rugged and environmentally friendly in it's impact should look at the advantages of a diesel engine. Plus there is additional advantages for energy production at lower RPMs and the longevity of the engine. Diesel engines are heavier but a smaller engine can be used with the same output as a gas counterpart.

Oh no, not another dieselgate scandal!

That was mess ever since VW was caught....

I am waiting to see what the class action settlement is for my BMW 335D and BMW X5-35D I owned....

US consumer diesel hate started in the 1970's to the best of my memory. Diesels lasted, but before turbo diesels - there was kind of a joke. Would last forever, and it would take you that long to get there. Diesels in the 70's stunk and did not have a lot of get up and go. The US manufactures did not bother to develop small diesels - but instead decided to keep them out of the market with legislative and public relation campaigns. A lot of popular vehicles world wide were never available in the US due to that. Modern diesels do have have emissions - but while they are different than gas emissions, I would not say they are more than gas emissions. Inherently they do produce more nitrogen oxides and particulates - but both of those can be lowered with technology (DEF addresses the nitrogen oxides, and a diesel particulate filter addresses the particulates).

Now in all fairness, there is a bit of hate against DEF and DPF's. Part of it stems around reducing the engines efficiency. Part is a hold over from bolting them on to engines that were not designed for them originally (such as the Ford 6-NO). A third problem is associated with proper use - and perhaps it is the largest problem. DPF require a sustained period of heavy use to generate the heat necessary for regen cycles. A lot of peoples daily driving is not adequate for this - leading to some rather expensive DPF failures. A diesel generator however could be a perfect use. When it runs, it runs under load. Short trips could easily be handled with the battery only - leaving the diesel only necessary when the trips are long enough to complete regen cycles.

FWIW I am a big diesel fan. While I don't necessarily love the complexity of turbo diesels - I do love the power they produce, plus I like the longevity of the normally aspirated ones. Something nice about being able to put a battery in a tractor that has not run for 15 years and having it start up. (of course that does not work with low sulfur diesel anymore - you would probably have a fuel tank of algae). Already learned the hard way to put stabilizer in all my farm equipment now.
