Changed my Reservation from EV-Only to Traveler Harvester....Because of THIS Bonus use.

I initially reserved a pure EV Traveler, but after some thought I changed my reservation to Harvester.

My initial thinking was @ 350 Mile Range, I can work around any challenges in rural South Alabama (charge at home overnight, short <100 mile lightweight towing, etc.)

On Monday, I lost electricity at home for 10 hours due to a thunderstorm in the area, and it got me thinking.

As a veteran of several hurricanes and remembering 18 days without electricity during hurricane Ivan, I realize that a bonus of the Harvester system is that it can be used as a generator to power refrigerators/freezers, home lights, etc. using GAS.

Hopefully Scout's software will allow this...

There's no particular reason the EV wouldn't either.

the downside, as a former tractor PTO generator owner, is that while your truck is running your house, it can't be a truck.

When my 800.00 Harbor Freight generator has no issues running my home, I guess I see it as more of a novelty than anything.

I ordered the Harvester, but what I am really hoping for is a jump in battery tech in the next 2-3 years and a Traveler that gets over 400 miles range. That would be a game changer for me.

After Helene, I ran a refrigerator, standup freezer, and handful of lights for 4 days from my 220V outlet on my Ford Lightning. It has a 131 KW battery. I used less than 28% battery. It's possible I could have made it 2 week on a full charge. I'm still all in for all electric (for now anyway).

Wow! Now I'm torn. Still have plenty of time to think about it, thankfully.

Once we know the real specs, we can all make goid decisions for our use.

My hopes as well ... another 50-100 miles of EV range. I already have a 24 kW natural gas generator on my home ... yes it is overkill, but I should be able to charge an EV during a power outage.

Disagree with this opinion… You can take your house and run it for two or three hours early in the morning get refrigerator heat and everything up to snuff. Be able to use your vehicle for maybe half the day… But I don't see a very large percentage of the population living your scenario… When storms hit people hunker down…

Those of us in New England aren't doing much else but waiting for snow plows to come and open the roads for 24 hours. Elon Musk said the same thing about his EV's when people challenged him why he wasn't doing car to Home. His narrow minded reply was well then people can't use their cars… Last time I checked none of us are going anywhere with hurricanes tornadoes floods or snow storms. The car is sitting in the garage as an anchor until we can use it to support the emergency situation.

had power go out here for a few. Fired up the ol Gen. powered some stuff in my home. Charged my CT. No problems. Went through 2.5 gallons of fuel and we always have 10 plus here. Would make that about 5 weeks worth of power? I don't see the problem honestly on full electric. But it is hard to get my head around.

I had the same thought several weeks ago when we had the bomb cyclone in Seattle (I posted on another forum). We lost power for almost a week. I have an R1T and I was able to power lots of things using the built in outlets which was awesome but had to charge several times by going to a DCFC.

I was imaging if I had the Scout with the Harvester, I would have been able to simply fill up the gas tank and recharge the battery via the generator. In the end its the same result: being able to power my home but I wouldn't have to sit at a charging station for 45-90 min, I'd be able to fill the tank in a few min and charge while powering.

That all being said, it depends on how the Harvester works.
  • Will it only charge the battery or can it be used as a "generator" to power other things?
  • If it only charges the battery, can it charge while the vehicle is parked?
  • Will it be able to provide power while charging via the generator?
  • Will it come with 240v outlets with at least 30-40 amps?
  • Will there be capability to do V2H, will it require additional equipment (most likely), will Scout build that or partner with a 3rd party, will it be available at launch?
