As much as I'd like to believe this article, there are a few others that actually pre-date the 1960 Scout (and even the term SUV but still fit the platform)...

- The 1935 Chevrolet Suburban, also known as the "Carryall Suburban," is widely considered the first SUV, combining a pickup truck frame with a station wagon body, and is the longest-running nameplate in automotive history
- Willys Jeep Station Wagon (1946)

If you want to include international brands, then there's this one too...
- The first Land Cruiser, initially called the Toyota Jeep BJ, was developed in 1951 as a military vehicle, and the name "Land Cruiser" was officially adopted in 1954
