New to EVs here. Very little actual knowledge or “know-how” with things. Let’s start with that.

I am an outdoorsman. Specifically, an Idaho back country hunter, and fisherman. I take multiple trips a year into the back country either camping for fun or hanging trail cameras, and in the fall and early Winter do the actual hunting trips. One of the best things about EVs to me is the frunk

This frunk space as currently shown by Scout motors is not contained on all four sides when you open the frunk. This front space is another area besides the cab where I would put packs and other gear that I don’t want bouncing around in the bed and a place where things need to keep dry. Yet, when you open the hood space, the gear will have a tendency to fall out. As currently designed, there is a nifty little pull out slider, bench of sorts, which is cool. However, for me, I think it would be better utilized if there were another vertical barrier there that would make sure, that the gear upon opening the hood would not fall out.

again, the seat is cool, but I think I would prefer a totally enclosed frunk space even after the hood was opened.

As a lightning owner which has a similar opening I love not having to reach over anything to load. I have never had anything come close to falling out.

Im sure there will be tie down points like there are in my Lightning to hold things in place when needed.

Rivian has the high lift over design you’re talking about. I can see the pros and cons to this design. Personally, I would rather have the scout/lightning design with hopes the aftermarket comes out with a removable front wall.

Yes, I like the design how it is. Say you are putting a cooler up front you would have to lift it up and over the face, instead of sliding it in. TWSS. However, expanding on your idea maybe engineer the seat to slide out or fold up (Think fold up like the stop plate on GMCs)to create a barrier and a bit of a cavity to tie things down in.

I feel it must have a low opening like this so those shorter than me can access what is in there. This is easily barricaded with a slot on both sides and a plastic, carbon, unobtanium board slid down in place. Now the tall or short are happy.
You could also put a net there. Easy to retrofit. Most trunks have evolved to be notched out and offer lower access than historically bucket trunks. It took some engineering to get the safety and rigidity up enough, but the daily access gains are welcome.

Though I 100% understand the concern and what you’re getting at, I definitely prefer this design. It’s one of the major things about the Rivian R1T/S that I dislike. I don’t want to have to lift things higher than I have to to utilize the space.

There are slots in the bottom and attachments in the back of the frunk that will allow additional netting or even a wall as you describe to be attached.

personally, I like it the way it is currently.
I prefer this open front design too, as long as there's a way to attach a net or other blocker because @endlessambition has a point with how things might fall out upon opening, especially if the frunk is packed full and/or on a decline angle.

It's not any different than an SUV's or station wagon's back. Those are all open. And, as usual, you can install some netting to keep things in place if needed.
