My son has had a Chevy Volt for years...original range extender. For him it works well because, while most of his driving is within 30 miles, he does fairly frequently travel to see friends 150 miles away which is when having the ICE engine generator makes for a convenient trip.

However, since 350 miles would be sufficient for almost every trip I make and I am only likely to be towing 100 miles or less, lugging around gasoline and an ICE engine is just wasteful. It is probably going to severely impact payload capacity, EV efficiency and performance.

One point to consider is that actual off-roading barely uses battery capacity since you are traveling slowly and getting regen.

As suggested by a number of posts, people should be realistic about what their use cases are. It is expensive and a little silly to by more battery than you need (GM EV pickups max range battery vs extended range battery) or a range extender you almost never use.

I agree with the second part of this wholeheartedly, but off-roading does actually use quite a bit of EV power, no? I remember TFL doing their pure-electric test with the 4xe and it used quite a bit of power, but obviously wasn't optimized for pure-electric. I'd imagine Scout can optimize the software/powertrain for different scenarios such as off roading, so maybe they could get more out of it? If the battery pack ends up at 130 kWh, the Scout could certainly do something like the Rubicon trail easily on a full battery, but I'm not sure about longer trails.

My use case would be mostly on-road, so I'm EV all the way.

You’re also assuming off-road trails are close to a charger. When my friend’s go they go and camp for a long weekend, there are no chargers or outlets of any kind where they are.

Here's my scenario I drive back and forth to Florida from New Jersey twice a year so during that time I am exceeding the 350 range. Having two daughters living in suburbs of Philadelphia when we come back during summer 5 months. We travel from our New Jersey home to visit and go to kids sports games it's cutting it close to 350 range round trip and driving between games and homes. So it's convience and it is also appealing to people like myself coming out of a plug in hybrid. So 500 mile range allows for piece of mind and winter battery degeneration.

Of many reasons, I wager resale will be solid.
We plan on towing a 26’ travel trailer around the USA (within towing weight parameters of course) and the ER Scout will be perfect.

Good take that many will share that same situation.

I'm hoping that the environment will be a little different by the time our orders are ready to be filled.

In general yes, for this maybe, but I think unlikely most of the time there aren’t even gas stations in why would there be charging stations
So you're saying these areas are unreachable because of a lack of gas stations as well? ;)

I'm just saying I think chargers will be much more prevalent and much closer to areas where people want to be. Not to mention I seem to recall seeing solar+battery installations from Jeep near offroad areas? Maybe some of those will be built as well.

Welcome to Watts Ranch home of the Kilowatt Fast charging cabins and clear view to the satellite. Get electrified at Scouts tavern.

… people have more range with gas and carry these new things called gas cans with extra gas in case they run out …

Why would they ever run out? You mean people plan ahead and stuff? Gee - maybe by 2028 we will have all terrain mobile charging units for such instances? Hell, not far in the future I can see even more compact and dense battery tech that allows us to carry extra new-tech lightweight battery if people need it.

Gotta embrace the future. As @joewilk45 said, times are changing.

You know how I can tell you have never been away from a city. Because people plan ahead in case things happen. They bring things they hopefully won’t need but trails wash out, trees fall down, things break down and you may have to improvise. This is why scout even showed off a jerrycan that fits on the spare tire holder. You hope to not have to use it but if you or someone you’re with runs into issues you’re prepared.
