Not by me, but good analysis and some predictions about the Scout Harvester EREV gas range extender system -- talks about 3 cylinder gasoline engine, HP output, EV battery pack size, fuel tank location, and even approach / departure angle.

Have a watch and share what you agree or disagree with...

Interesting take. The more I see, the more I am convinced the Harvester version will be at a minimum $3K more than the all-EV model despite the high cost of the larger battery pack. One thing to note - I don't think the battery in the ERV version will be "slightly" smaller, I think it's more likely about 1/2 the size of the EV.

Well there are Volvo and BMW vehicle manufacturing facilities close to Blythewood, South Carolina.

I am unfamiliar what displacement they have, and while turbocharcing is efficient, I am unsure if the added heat is something engineers want.......I don't know, but neither does anyone else?

In my mind a 2.5 liter Naturally aspirated engine could get the results needed, but the goal is to be American made, and relatively locally sourced, I am wondering what is currently local, or can be reliably designed by 2027........

Also, is the Harvester confirmed to be gasoline, or can it be diesel?

Since we are spit balling...

Ramcharger's 3.6 V6 is making 280+ hp and paired to a 130kw generator (170hp). There are losses so it wouldn't ever be a 1:1 and you also don't want your engine maxing out RPMS to generate peak power if you're at all concerned about NVH.

I don't think there's ANY way in hell they are packaging a 3 cylinder and pairing it to a 100kw generator.

The Ramcharger cut the battery in half because to get 500 miles of extended range with that 130kw generator, it needs a fairly good sized gas tank.

With the Harvester's smaller engine, smaller generator, and lesser range (by almost 200 miles) I can't hardly believe they'd cut down the battery in half to make room for a tank like they did with the Ramcharger.

Been hearing that someone at scout suggested 150 miles of EV range...that would be cutting the battery down by nearly 60% if true.

I'm very skeptical of that claim...would like to hear what was said in full context...maybe something being lost in translation.

edit: Went back and looked at this image in the reveal...I think they shared with us the location of the fuel tank. If these images can be taken at more than face value...that looks to me to be like a 25% reduction in battery pack size.

From a safety standpoint, is it concerning that the gas tank will be in the front with no engine to protect it in a head on collision?

Seems like VW has done that very thing in the past.

150 miles of EV range comes from Scout. Jamie@Scoutmotors has posted it on their forums. That doesn't mean it's written in stone. Those are just their projections right now. There's an awful lot of engineering that has to occur.

Interesting idea I hadn't even considered engines from other manufacturers outside VW Group. I guess anything is possible... but it'd probably take some massive efficiency or packaging advantage from another manufacturer's engine for the Harvester not to use a VW group engine.

Remember it’s body on frame. So with 2 galvanized steel frames protruding well past the gas tank (it looks like the fuel cell is under the driver/passenger) along with a stout front bumper, it’s well protected.

There are some European vehicles with far less protection…..most Porsche 911’s have no full frame and front mounted tanks without issues, and they are a well sorted vehicle.

That is something a number of vehicle manufacturers have done before. It’s just a matter of how important that the Harvester and the rest of Scout be sourced from the claimed 200 miles (IIRC) from Blythewood, SC.

It’s probable that the main battery won’t be made in Blythewood, SC…..and that is a large portion of the vehicle.

So in my mind it will be an engine from Volvo, BMW, or they will use a pre-engineered VW group engine…..yet build it in the Blythewood factory.

Will the EREV have no FRUNK due to the engine?
And the non ER - BEV only have a FRUNK ??
