Undercoating?

Do we know if the Scouts will have a undercoating to protect from rust? Or will it be completely shielded plus an undercoating on the frame?

I know from working on BMWs that its a very protective way of preventing rust is to have a plastic shielding and the frame having a spray coating give plenty of protection. Especially from salty air, water, mud.

Would like to know this also since I deal with plenty of rain, snow, ice and road salt.

I posted these pics before of the Scout underbody / undercarriage (in skid plates discussion thread) which shows that it's almost entire covered up by plastic covers and panels. That should help reduce underbody components to getting wet but not completely waterproof. So it'd be nice if the underside parts were all rustproofed as well, especially the exposed parts of the Harvester gas engine range extender.

It would be nice if it has protection on it. My concern would be salt cause corrosion on sensitive battery components. I am sure someone smarter than me has solved this problem.

From what it looks like to me who has seen undercoatings, it seems they have a black spray-paint of some-sort on most parts. But what we really what to see is more of a RhinoX material lining it since it alot more durable.

Definitely looks sprayed with paint or something. Nice to see they bothered doing that on the concepts. They didn't have to for just concept vehicles.

Is this the paint chiping already though?

I've actually never seen a vehicle undercarriage with Rhino / LineX spray liner applied (either from factory or aftermarket). Probaby bc not a good idea to coat everything with a thick coating. Repairs would be tough as everything would be stuck together by the liner spray material.

Fluid film would be better option I'd think.

They could “pickle” the frame which is what i believe your saying but fluid film.
