Other way around
That’s not what Scout Motors website says.

“Pure electric models offer up to 350 miles of range. Scout’s extended range models offer 500 miles of range or more through a built-in, gas-powered generator.”

Oh! I didn’t realize that! I just assumed the quote was an error.

Most of my driving fits inside 150 miles round trip, so I suppose that would work for me. It will be interesting to see the weight difference between the EV and EREV. Gas isn’t light and neither is an engine, so it might not be terribly far off.

I need to think about this some more, as I was hoping to rarely use the gas engine in order to avoid traditional gas engine maintenance schedules. I think it will still work out well. Looking forward to more details.

I made an effort post in another thread - making some assumptions, if you figure the generator gets 18mpg equivalent and the battery/range numbers are identical to an r1t

The energy density of gas is 12,200 Wh/kg - lithium ion is 330 Wh/kg.

Even a 200lb engine/genset and a 30 lb tank with 120 lbs of fuel is way lighter than an equivalent energy battery.

At 18mpg equivalent, the fuel would weigh 50% more than that by my math, but maybe still lighter than battery? What would 350 miles of battery range weigh roughly?

350 range of battery vs 150 on battery plus gas engine and tank + fuel.

That is something that german engineers are good at. Under estimating numbers. I would rather that than over estimate like …. TESLA.
They may not be under estimating, more like holding back what they really figure the numbers are to play it safe.
No bad publicity.

Don't count on it. Battery is too small unless the tech improves significantly over the next year plus.
There are already EV Trucks on market right now that get that now. Rivians get that on their Dual Motor Max pack. They gets 420ml EPA Est. and there battery pack is 140 kWh. If Scout Motors is saying the Battery Pack is going to be 120-130kWh how would they not achieve 350ml EPA Est.?

A little video on an EREV powertrain that actually won the Dakar Rally with Audi:

The GMC Denali EV is a good example that EV's can be practical when towing with decent range.
We won't really know with the Scout until we tow with it.

The GMC Denali EV is also in the range of 100K. So yeah if you want to pay for range and towing then there are options out there for EVs. I don't really want to or need to drop 100K on a vehicle. That's what was so appealing for the Scout, 51K for 350miles of range! That's amazing.

And obviously we will see if that holds true.
