The VW ID4 (for 2023 assembled in Tennessee) starts under $38,000. No reason that a Scout EV should be that much more other than beefed up suspension and drivetrain and the inevitable inflation until the 2026 delivery date.

Note: final significant assembly of the ID4 will qualify it for federal tax credits, which are quite a bit higher for business use than consumer.

And other homegrown EV suv/pickup such as Canoo which will be built in Oklahoma and, as far as projected to start under $40,000 there will be no reason that a Scout should cost the same as a Tesla
The cheapest ID4 with AWD is $46,295 so I’d guess a starting price something near that as it’s 4WD system will be more expensive to manufacture. The ID4 AWD has a rated range of 255 miles with a 82kw battery but a Scout will be less aerodynamic so I’ll guess more like a 230 mile range and obviously that goes down quite a bit in colder weather and if driven at speeds over 65mph.

Tesla has had to raise prices in the last couple of years as raw material costs for batteries are way up and those prices are predicted to keep rising.

FWIW, I’d be happy with a 200 mile range for a Scout as I don’t drive farther than that in one day. I love the lower operating cost and long term reliability of my 2015 Tesla and also love that I never have to stop and fill up. Every morning I’ve got a full “tank”.

SUV's are where companies make their profits, but with the price of EV raw materials, could be slimmer margins. My guess is this is an "all-in, out-the-door" base price $55K vehicle nicely equipped, with options up to $90K or so. Should we have a poll? ;)

I hope it comes in at $40K, but I'm thinking this is kind of a cross-shop with the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, although I admit I haven't read much on this vehicle beyond the initial PR. Very stoked though. My dad had two Scouts growing up. I hope this is more reliable LOL.

If previous EV introductions are any indication, they will probably release the quad-battery, 8-motor, fully vegan-incrusted leather interior, etc. model before the "normal" one. But still hoping for a reasonable launch price, especially given the potential long lead time if they start accepting orders within the next year.

You all are breaking my heart. I am hoping for a base price in the mid-30s and for it to go up from there. One can dream.
Prices will go down when people stop overpaying for cars.

I wish, but not a chance. I reserved a ford lightning supposed to start at $29,900. By the time they got to my reservation number they were selling either of the lower trims and it was over $60,000!! I did not buy it.
It will be a different market by the time these go into production and hopefully battery costs continue to fall. Scout is saying it will be in the $60,000 range.

Ive talked with Scour Employees on this exact thing. They are really set on the starting 50k price point. They say that it even factors in what the price of battery will be projected to be priced at. At the time of production. Since battery prices per kWh keeps going down.

Given that they have already given us a target price, I think the best we can hope for is that price is not extreamly stripped down.

I do have range anxiety. Take the IDBuzz. Hard to find old articles about the concept - but I did find one with a targeted range of 340. Production published range was 240. Independent testing showed ranges of 190. Now that it is in the US, and people are actually driving them - I watched one youtube video. 20%-80% range for his trip was under 100 miles. Part of that was giving up 40% of the battery capacity to keep it 20%-80% (which was mostly necessary to cut charging times, and to have reserve when chargers in route were not working), part was due to range loss due to his trip being in cold weather. Part might have been his driving style. Still, it turned his 500 mile maiden trip into a nightmare (that and it was miserable at hitting published charge rates due to the cold, part because he wanted to use Electrify America charging stations - which were mostly broken).

Personally I just hope the target price is with a battery that can actually deliver. I also hope the target price is with a fully usable 4wd off road capable SUV. If they want to make a budget model later that removes these features to cut production costs - or to market segment, fine. I just hope that getting a real Scout does not cost a ton in upgrades.

There's no reason not to deliver in the 50k range.

Unless they listen to all these people asking for bluetooth bidets and rhino horn window switches.

Seems like no worthwhile 4x4 is less than $50k these days so I think you're in the right range. I'm not sure they have been clear about where the Scout fits in. Is it smaller, like a Jimmy or a Samurai? Or is it bigger like a Wrangler or Bronco? I feel like the original scouts were not huge vehicles so it might be cool to have an EV 4x4 in that smaller category. I have a Bronco and I love it. But if I lived close to trails, I would love to have a little EV run around little fun machine that can do some trail riding. Super excited to see where they go!
The original Scouts were quite large. They were competing with the behemoth station wagons of the day.

In the industry, options, are called "value add"

As a broad, general rule of thumb, everytime a part is touched, the price is doubled.

So a blank door panel with a hole for a crank, say 1.00.

Door panel with switch bezel, 2.00

install switch, 4.00

Etc etc. Per unit price goes up more they load them up. This is where Stellantis went wrong, trying to make a garrilion dollars on each unit, then interest rates came along and buggered their sales.

If Scout is more volume focused, then the price can be hit, easily, but that means almost no one get's every option they want, because there's very few options. If I ruled the world, with all my program launch experience, I would offer like three exterior colors, 1 interior, the lowest price possible, and poop as many out as quickly as I could, and direct you to my affiliated companies to make mods.
