RIP Scout 80, '99 Wrangler Rubicon
Jamie@Scout's latest word on start of production:

We have been saying 2027 since reveal. There are a lot of moving pieces obviously and we made a pivot to include a range extender which is significant. I would say late 2027 [calendar year] but let’s see how things progress.

oh boy... its looking like it might not be ready to produce till 2028. When have manufacturers, especially new ones hit production early or even on time? Fingers crossed though they hit late 2027.

Does that amount to a second delay? Oh boy. Still, we’ll check out factory site during family spring break road trip.

That should work out fairly well for me. I traded my last truck in for this one about a year ago, after driving it almost five years. Scout should have the trucks coming off the line by the time I'm ready for one.

I understand the delays are frustrating, but honestly, I'm not surprised. Growing up in rural Colorado in the 70s and 80s, Scouts and Broncos were a common sight. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but I really want the new Scout to live up to the hype. Everything they've shown us so far looks amazing, and I'm hoping they can even exceed those high expectations. This is the first time I've been truly excited about a new vehicle launch. It just ticks all the boxes for me: rugged, 4x4, electric, and something I can tinker with on my own.

Launching a brand new vehicle is a massive undertaking, especially in the US. Delays are inevitable. I appreciate that Scout is taking the time to get it right. Focus on building a top-notch factory, rigorously testing the vehicles, and hiring a skilled workforce. That's the best way to deliver a Scout that meets everyone's expectations.

...we have (fraternal) twin boys getting licenses in spring 2027, so timing was already really tight to plus-up the family fleet via Scout. I'll likely just keep driving my old Volvo and get the older kid a Toyota hybrid - and pass the old minivan she drives now down to the boys to fight over who doesn't have to be seen driving it.

Hope I can park my Scout reservation spot in line for another 1-2 years beyond launch until its time to car shop again.

With 50,000+ reservations and production ramp up time for a new plant thrown in to the equation (assuming all 50k reservations convert to sales), seems there is a good chance some current reservation holders wouldn’t see their vehicle until the 2029 model year.

I am ok with this. I don’t want to have to be in and out of a service center. Always seems to happen with a new to market vehicle. They should take their time with it and focus on quality.

Take your time do it right the first time test test test before bringing to mkt. Just don’t go up on your pricing.

One of the vlogs I was watching talked about how notoriously slow VW was among legacy car makers in bringing new models to launch, and they were concerned that using VW parts and being under the VW umbrella might slow down this process, rather than showing VW that things could be done the right way faster.

Legitimate concern considering the ID Buzz van that went on sale in Europe in 2022 (2024 here in the States) was originally shown as a concept at the NA Auto show in 2017. As a long time VW owner, they will drive you crazy waiting on new models.

Yeah assuming fall 2027 launch for MY28 then MY29-30 could be a safer bet.

Following spring 2027, our next-next new vehicle might not happen until fall 2030/MY31. So plenty of time to work out the bugs by then, maybe even midcycle refresh? Very long wait though, sheesh.

But as long as Scout production is well underway & debugged before Europa Clipper orbits Jupiter, I'm good. (April 2030)
