IMO this is optimal. (And forgive me if I'm misunderstanding how the range extender works). If it was truly 350 all electric and 500 with the range extender, then on road trips you'd only be going 150 miles between fill-ups if you couldn't charge. Having the 350 as the available mileage with the extender makes road trips more palatable.Edmunds makes it sound like the Harvester has the same battery as the EV. This contradicts info from Scout that mentions a smaller battery with an EV range of around 150 miles with the remaining 350 miles provided by generator-supplied electricity.
