Maneuverability is critical to me. Has anyone heard a reported turning circle spec for the Traveler?
I still wish they would incorporate rear wheel steer but that adds yet more complexity and cost.(AI generated)
Estimating the Turning Radius for the Scout Traveler
To estimate the turning radius of the Scout Traveler based on the wheelbase of similar vehicles, we can analyze the relationship between wheelbase and turning radius from the provided data.Vehicle Specifications:
Analysis
- Ford F-150 Lightning: Wheelbase = 145", Turning Radius = 23.9'
- Jeep Grand Cherokee: Wheelbase = 114.8", Turning Radius = 18.55'
- Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Wheelbase = 118.4", Turning Radius = 20.4'
- Rivian R1T: Wheelbase = 135.8", Turning Radius = 22.5'
- Rivian R1S: Wheelbase = 121.1", Turning Radius = 18.5'
- Scout Traveler: Wheelbase = 120.4"
Conclusion
- Turning Radius vs. Wheelbase:
- The Jeep Grand Cherokee has the shortest wheelbase (114.8") and the smallest turning radius (18.55').
- The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has a slightly longer wheelbase (118.4") and a larger turning radius (20.4').
- The Rivian R1S, with a wheelbase of 121.1", has a turning radius of 18.5', which is quite tight for its size.
- The Rivian R1T has a longer wheelbase (135.8") and a turning radius of 22.5'.
- The Ford F-150 Lightning, with the longest wheelbase (145"), has the largest turning radius (23.9').
- Estimating the Turning Radius for the Scout Traveler:
- The Scout Traveler's wheelbase of 120.4" is closer to the Rivian R1S and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited than to the Ford F-150 Lightning.
- Given the turning radius of the Rivian R1S (18.5') and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (20.4'), we can expect the turning radius of the Scout Traveler to be somewhat larger than that of the Rivian R1S but smaller than that of the Rivian R1T (22.5') and the Ford F-150 Lightning (23.9').
Based on the wheelbase of the Scout Traveler (120.4"), we can estimate its turning radius to be approximately 20 to 21 feet. This estimate places it between the turning radii of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the Rivian R1T, reflecting its intermediate wheelbase.
Yeah, me too… while it’s not “necessary” per-say, it’s one of those things that once you experience how much it it improves the driving experience, it’s hard to not desire it on every vehicle. And it’s not just for one-off situations like we describe above, it’s hundreds of little experience improvements over the life of driving that make it so desirable.I still wish they would incorporate rear wheel steer but that adds yet more complexity and cost.

In addition to wheelbase, turning radius is also determined by the maximum steering angle of the front wheels. The Silverado EV non 4-wheel-steering versions actually aren't as bad as might be expected because of a large front steering angle. In the absence of an official specification, I would love to see a Scout with the wheels cranked as far as they can turn and have someone measure that angle.(AI generated)
