Everyone here is hitting the nail on the head, but I just want to add buttons on the posterior of the steering wheel are so grossly underutilized.

But please Scout allow both passenger and driver saved seat profiles.

How hard is it to make so the driver can move the passenger seat remotely.

I like hidden buttons, and buttons that are ergonomically worked into other design aesthetics.

Scout has done a good job, akin to the Hummer EV's, and Sequoia's switches.
You must be a fan of the Lyriq where you push on the Cadillac badge and things happen.

Not hard, distracting.
Tesla and MB are returning to switches and levers for a reason.

I get to drive a variety on vehicles through my work. I have seen many different layouts of screens and controls. A new addition to the fleet is a Silverado EV.

I was driving the Silverado at night and tried to turn off the infotainment screen. It is pretty bright on a dark road even when dimmed to the lowest setting. I pulled over and found the screen off setting three menus deep (pretty distracting to do while driving). When I turned the screen off it went to a date and time page, aka calm or detox screen. Not good. Still way too bright for night driving. Which is weird because the drivers display can display music and navigation anyway.

The solution according to the internet is to shut down the infotainment entirely l (no music/radio), pull the fuse, and/or build a curtain or cover. Yes, I have duct taped a rag over a work truck screen before, but that’s not something I want to do to a Scout or personal vehicle.

Long story short, I am looking for a physical button. One press for Detox, two presses for screen off and one more press to turn it back on. I have seen this done in Fords, Rams and even a Honda or two.

Since I am already ranting, the Silverado EV has Auxiliary Switches. They are three menus deep as well. They are nice because I can type in my labels and pick from a limited number of icons. But not quick to access for off-road use or extra driving lights. Physical auxiliary switches or being able to add them to a favourites/shortcuts bar would be great.

  • Infotainment Detox Screen Off Button
  • Auxiliary Switches

What physical controls do you want?
daughter has a 2024 Jeep wrangler it has the 1 touch screen offsets great at night

Tesla isn't moving back to switches. With the lone exception of the turn signal stalk on the 2025 Model Y, Musk still wants to use the screen for pretty much everything. Betcha the 2026 Model Y loses the turn signal stalk. The 2025 Model 3 doesn't have it.

Just the buttons & switches I need, and nothing more:

- Safety items:
-- SOS is a federal mandate
-- switch gear to go into PDNR
-- drive mode dial - including locked diff settings
-- trailer brake controller
-- turn signals need their own stalk
-- windshield wipers & washer spray
-- High beams
-- cruise controls including trailing distance and speed up/down

- Regular used functions:
-- volume knob & mute button
-- track fwd/rev
-- several reprogrammable switches, be that for Aux controls or custom for user preference
-- detox mode; or at least let me set this as a programmable button
-- heated /cooled seats and steering wheel (but also make this be automatic based on ambient temp)
-- seat adjustments on the side of the seat
-- window up/down switches
-- Sunroof and Terra's back glass open/close; it would be great to set a 'max open button' where all the windows, sunroof, back glass open via a programmable button or if you hold down a switch for an extra second.
-- climate; auto/manual, temp up/down, fan speed up/down
-- garage door (on the sun visor please)
-- voice control activation
-- rear heated / cooled seat controls in the back

- Things that should not have a button, and can go into a menu:
-- parking brake - should be automatic with an EV drivetrain
-- lock / unlock: this should be automatic
-- headlights, should default to automatic
-- side mirror, steering wheel, and pedal adjustments memory settings, this should all be automatic to the driver's seat memory setting. Also, please make the rear view mirror motor controlled and programmed with the seat memory position as well - journalists always get upset over these settings, but owners will set it up once and then forget about it for years
-- side mirror fold: again, should be automatic
-- side mirror tilt down; automatic when put into Reverse
-- regen settings, once you find what you like you'll stick to it (max regen and 1 peddle driving for me please).
-- camp/outdoor mode
-- Aux power on / home power backup
-- no dedicated tow/ haul mode; either make it part of the drive mode dial or automatic once something is connected to the hitch wiring
-- glovebox (if needed, I'd preferer a latch)
-- charge port and harvester door (allow it to open from outside press)
-- NO START / STOP
-- Frunk/ tailgate open/close (both should have a way to open from outside)

Less is more. How about buttons that go to sub menus instead of individual stuff? Like one that goes to driver comfort settings. One for climate. Stuff like that. I do like the buttons a lot, but the Silverado is a bit overkill.

For me, I love the physical buttons in my 2024 wrangler (with the updated interior/infotainment system). I feel like the wrangler has the perfect mix of physical buttons and screen controls. I’d like to see something similar. At min though, physical drive selector, turn signals, horn, wipers, volume button, hvac system, windows, and a screen button.

The post with the floor mounted dimmer/brighter love that!

Volume button (non-negotiable in my opinion)
Basic knobs and buttons for climate control and the vents
Physical buttons on the left (driver) and right (passenger) sides of the seats for seat adjustment

I think physical toggles for turn signals and wipers are also pretty non-negotiable and need to remain in a normal place on the sides of the steering wheel. It would be unsafe to have these as part of the screen or other inconveniently located buttons.

My husband just got a new R1S and pretty much everything has to be done through the touch screen. You have to tap audio, then the volume button, then drag the bar up or down to change the volume. It's also on the passenger side of the screen. It's really inconvenient and in my opinion unsafe. Same goes for the climate control. No knobs. You have to tap the climate icon, then it brings up a screen that shows all the vents, then you have to tap the vents you want on, adjust the rate of flow and temperature. Again, unsafe in my opinion while driving. The only convenient button is the heat seater is an easy one touch at the bottom of the screen.

I think a lot of electric car companies and cars blew right past the ideal balance between advanced technology, convenience and safety. The things in a car that the driver would be adjusting the most need to be readily accessible and take 1 or 2 seconds to adjust.

I could not disagree more with these. Parking break should be some sort of pedal. I would never, and I mean never, want a park break controlled by some computer, this will only lead to issues. Same with lock and unlocking doors. Sure, the tech exists, and it's possible to do, but at what cost? Nah, just let me decide when to and when not to unlock the doors. I'm very capable of making that choice. Automatic headlights are a total joke, as a driver, I hate them with a passion. Plus I feel that Scout's whole image is to make a vehicle that allows the driver/owner make the meaningful choices and not rely on a computer to control every aspect.

-- side mirror, steering wheel, and pedal adjustments memory settings, this should all be automatic to the driver's seat memory setting. I somewhat agree with this, though I also don't mind when there is a memory button either on the side of the seat, or in the door card somewhere.

-- side mirror tilt down; automatic when put into Reverse
-- regen settings, once you find what you like you'll stick to it (max regen and 1 peddle driving for me please).

I can agree with this, but I actually really like the power on/off button that is shown in the concept.
