The Ramcharger is priced less the the full ev. I think you underestimate the true cost of batteries.
Everything I've read says the Ramcharger will be about $2,000 more than the REV. They are close, though, and I have no idea how equipped they are.

Nope, I know exactly how much they cost to make. With emissions controls, EPA certification, etc. the costs will be about even and since the harvester will be marketed as an "upgrade" it will be priced as such.

It disrupts the normal traffic flow at the station. Y'all ain't ever been to a Bucee's apparently. People lined up waiting to fill up next when along comes one of you folks that disrupts the normal flow.

I don't see the problem in Scout moving the filler door and the associated line. They want to claim to be an American company resurrecting an American brand. Then they go ahead and do something goofy like this.
This is nonsense. I think you've created a problem in your head that doesn't exist. I've onwed vehicles with the filler on the passenger side and never once considered it to be an issue.

I used to travel for work a lot and drove all kinds of different rentals. It's always a crap shoot which side the filler is on...there is no normal flow of traffic into the gas station because there is no standard for which side it's on because there are cars from all over driving on our roads.

American made vehicles might traditionally have it on the driver's side, but that's really only relevant to normal flow if we just had American cars here.

This is a non issue.
Hey, I'd just be happy if everyone would pull through to the furthest open pump, instead of stopping at the first one and making me drive around them...

Small nitpick, but is anyone else bothered with the fuel door for the Harvester on the passenger fender? I don't want to drag the gas pump hose across the hood and be concerned if I pulled close enough. Also don't want to be That Guy who messes with the flow of the gas station traffic by pulling into the gas pump contrary to the majority of customers. It's all FUBAR.
Seriously? Drag the hose across the vehicle to avoid upsetting the traffic flow at a bucees that doesn't actually exist and that every other boob in the world doesn't know exists and wouldtt care anyways if it did ?

I have a jeep with fuel door on the driver's side and a Subaru with it in the passenger side. Many many cars have fuel on different sides.

Honestly I have no clue what you are talking about.

This is not a "thing".

Can you imagine if manufacturers followed every nit pick like this ? We would all be traveling in wagon trains. But we would still likely be sourcing horses that only fart when down wind.

The BMW i3 was a good example of an undersized range extender. It could only maintain 60mph once the battery died. You were screwed if you had to drive hilly terrain.
The Chevy Volt was a much better design and close to full performance was available after the 40 mile range of the battery was exhausted. It was however a awful sounding generator under heavy load which is why I'm skeptical of the Harvester for my use cases.

Yes, but it some circumstances the engine could provide direct mechanical power to the wheels. It also wasn't rated for towing.

I disagree.
If they want to put this engine under the bed where a spare tire would normally be it creates a packaging challenge. A traditional I3 or I4 would be too tall. But inside the VW portfolio there is the 4 cylinder boxer engine used in the Cayman. I would expect Scout to use a modified version of that engine designed to be cheaper, optimized for a narrower RPM range, without a turbo, and without any accessories (alternator, power steering, etc). That would be my bet.

But I think the big question is what is the design objective of this engine? I hope they are sizing it to power the vehicle under towing conditions (up hill, highway speeds) without any degradation of performance. And not some sort of condition where it will only recharge the battery when parked at a camp site.
My understanding is the gas engine will not directly connect to the drivetrain. It's for battery charging only so no impact on performance.

If the power demands of the vehicle are greater than the generator can provide, the battery will lose charge and thus power would need to be restricted to keep the battery from dying.
