With all the data being used from Tesla, Ford and I'm sure every car manufacturer out there, I wonder how much we'll be able to "opt out" of data collection from Scout, or at least from parts of it? I don't foresee Scout having full self-driving, but OTA updates require back/forth info from a central location. Anyone else concerned?!?

I would believe it would be optional.

There will be data collection. It will go back to Scout for R&D purposes. You may be able to opt-out of storage for any personal information. If this is really a concern, you need to re-evaluate your decision to carry a smartphone.

Coming from a mechanic standpoint or at least BMW we get access to the data the car reported, it helps with diagnosis.

Especially since the tech is still new to most legacy auto makers. It helps us mechanics be able to locate where the issue is coming from.

Data Collection should always be a concern for anyone regardless of the device - I hope ppl aren't just blindly hitting "accept" when prompted about data collection from apps/phones. I get these are all choices that we make to own the device, but a car doesn't need to carry the same weight as a phone where I choose to sending my personal data to said company. The option to anonymize data or opt out is always welcomed.

OTA updates are not the major concern, although the example below is a bit unsettling.
Millions of General Motors' cars were vulnerable to hackers for almost five years

The main issue is not being able to opt-OUT of data collection in general and in particular what they do with YOUR DATA like sharing it with their *affiliates* even after anonymizing it which is proven not to be anonymous when correlated with other data sets.
Debunking the Myth of “Anonymous” Data

How an obscure cellphone tracking tool provides police ‘mass surveillance on a budget’

Why ‘Anonymized Data’ Isn’t So Anonymous

After waiting 27+ months for my Rivian R1S preorder, I was presented with the data policy clause in my Rivian Purchase Agreement for which there was no opt-OUT.
4. Data Policy Notice and Terms of Use
You consent to Rivian and/or its affiliates collecting data from You or about You or Your Vehicle
(including your Vehicle’s location data) and agree that it will be collected and used in accordance with
Our Data Privacy Notice and Rivian Terms, each of which is incorporated herein by reference and
available on Our website at rivian.com/legal/privacy and rivian.com/legal/terms.
Hopefully, Scout will not mandate such a clause especially given the recent VW headline below.

Volkswagen massive data leak caused by a failure to secure AWS credentials
VW also failed to meet regulatory requirements for data security, and even violated its own terms of service, said analyst.

After waiting 2+ years for your Scout preorder, are you really going to cancel your transaction when presented with a data collection clause in your purchase agreement that provides no opt-OUT? This was the dilemma that Rivian owners had to deal with.

Anonymizing data is a myth. Plenty of examples to prove this assertion. See my other reply for details.

Until Scout gets hacked or provides your data to its *affiliates* like Rivian et. al.

As far as smartphones, there are PLENTY of de-Googled smartphones from which to choose; however, if you've succumbed to the Apple Stockholm Syndrome and refuse to escape, then there's really no hope for you. ;-)

Bad ASSumption. See Rivian data collection clause for details for which there is no opt-OUT.

No problem as long as there's an opt-OUT choice.
