Can't find anything, I know most VWs have it... But rivian's software is the class dunce without it. I'll preorder a terra if so.

They at least need a way to plug in for nav apps, or build in sat nav, Pandora, and Sirius XM for tunes.

Even though the Scout EV will be using Rivian's software stack, I'm hoping Scout's software will be forked version that Scout has control over so they can adds things like Apple CarPlay, which Rivian won't do on their R1 vehicles. 🤯

Having a nav and a Bluetooth connection won't cut it...That's what Rivian does and it's like going back to the stone age after having your entire digital life easily available in the car.

All comes down to Scout wanting to make “owning” software stack a revenue stream. With the Rivian deal I’m not even sure how it works, if the data goes back to Rivian or they share. Technically its absolutely possible, Lucid added Carplay, a vehicle at least 18 months away from full production can include it.

Missing CarPlay will be a dealbreaker. I have a Mach E and my wife has a Telluride, both with CarPlay. I hate when I have to use the Ford interface for media or nav. CarPlay is excellent, even if it's just phone projection and not the full CarPlay 2 car integration, where Apple takes over the instrument cluster, etc. I want my good maps. I want Siri. I want my Audible and Apple Music and text message announcements.

I wouldn't move to a house that didn't have at least cable internet (or fiber) - and I won't buy a car that doesn't support CarPlay.

I have wireless CarPlay in my Ranger with an adapter, and it works great, they are adding apps every update, but I am happy with Google maps, Apple music, messages, and sirius XM and the like.

I don't miss CarPlay in my R1S at all. Rarely used it in my cars that had it.
It's definitely one of those things that doesn't seem major until you get in the habit of using it. For me, driving the Rivian was like driving a 90s concept car. Lots of cool stuff, but so much just straight up missing because the designers had no idea how the 2020s would work.

If my friend/acquaintance group is any indication, Rivian is losing a lot of sales due to their hubris.

I posted this in another thread:

I bet the decision whether to have Apple Carplay / Android Auto up to Scout. Meaning... even though Scout will be using Rivian's software (which currently doesn't have Carplay / AA), it sounds like the company will be able to differentiate their UI and software from Rivian.

Rivian's Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid just said this in an interview: each brand that uses the joint venture’s software will “continue to have their own identity,” as well as “their own features.”

I don't think it's a technical limitation or contractual. But it's the temptation to drink from the same "big data" cup as everyone else who refuses to use AA/CP. I wish they'd come out and say it one way or another though.

Does anyone know why the dependency on Rivian? There are plenty of automotive software solutions out there.

Adopting a traditional manufacturer's software makes no sense since it's not made for ground-up EV platforms. So that leaves only a few pure EV company's software for buying / licensing as an off-the-shelf solution -- Rivian, Tesla, Lucid.

Article published today on that exact theory and phenomenon:

Many car companies are moving away from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the EV truck world.
