Some things which I think do help differentiate the Terra so far:

* Bench seat. Love it.

* Factory winch. The absence of this option is the main reason I can't even consider Rivian.

* The approach angles seem very good, or at least comparable to some custom Jeeps.

* The supplementary generator. I guess Ram has this, but not many others... Not sure I’ll need it, but it’s a great wrinkle.

Some things which do not do that for me:

* The length. As someone who offroads for work, not as a hobby, I think 229" is too long for some situations. Excessive length is part of the reason I haven't gone for a Lightning (along with the Ford’s extreme weight).

* The look. Many apparently don’t agree... but I find the look of the 21st century Scout too close to other contemporary vehicles, and not uniquely vintage Scout-ish enough. It strikes me more as a Rivian with a few character tweaks, rather than emphatically a Scout. And the Rivan is pretty darn bland. Maybe in person I’ll feel differently, but I was undewhelmed by the launch images.

Unless they start using some new battery technology (which is doubtful) the Scout is going to weigh similar to the Silverado/Hummer EVs. Which is significantly heavier than the F150 lightning.

Rivian being "bland" is something I've never heard before and coming from someone who drives a vehicle whose design hasn't changed since 1945 just seems odd. BUT unfortunately to your point, I think if any changes are going to be made, they will be toward more bland than more revolutionary since cars in the Americas must abide by such stringent safety laws, etc. Pretty much agree with all of your other points but I am excited about the styling and how they are pulling ideas from every popular off roader on the market today, EV and ICE alike.

Rivian being "bland" is something I've never heard before
To my eyes the Rivian exterior looks like any generic American small pickup from 20 years ago, and not in a good way.

As far as design constraints from safety regs...If the Cybertruck and electric Hummer got through (ugh to both looks), I think a lot more character is possible.

Look at some concept cars like the Alpha trucks. Shame they are still vaporware.

I use my truck to haul things, not like shot shot trucker or mobile mechanic, but more than my fellow colleagues at work who's bed covers have never been off and haul a camper 1 time a year.

I haul 1k in the bed once a week, 8k on a trailer once a month, and drive 200 miles a day minimum.

So I buy trucks to use them, and I buy them for mileage, unlike the guy's who proclaim they didn't buy it for mileage and scream over every nickel increase in the price of fuel lol.

But I'm not paying 70, 80, 90k for a truck to drag branches and chains over, drop cargo onto, fill with cow poop... etc.

My absolute ceiling is 60k, and frankly, I'm concerned with how nice the interior is on the concepts, I don't want all that light colored fabric, I'll ruin it.

If the Lightning had launched at 40 as promised, I'd own one now, it fit's my needs well. If my Terra comes in in the 50's as promised, I'll own one.

It's not a luxury item or a flex for me, it's a tool. Make it simple, make it affordable, and I'll be a buyer, idc about politics or the planet or anything other than a cheap, reliable, economical truck I can continue to use as a truck.

But towing capacity does not matter much to me though I am not one of the above-mentioned hipsters who wants a Scount just to make a small campfire and roast marshmallows a couple times yearly.

Since I am going offroad for my forestry project a good 2-4 times weekly, I want something more maneuverable, with good ground clearance, serious mud tires, a good winch and a shortish bed to handle dirty/sap-covered tools and bucked-up wood around.

Per an earlier post, my old Gwagen was almost perfect, except that it was an SUV not a pickup. Monster off-road. Short and maneuverable. Horrible mileage but I was putting less than 5K miles on it annually, crawling on trails.

My dream has been to have one (electric) vehicle which can be both my offroad work truck and my daily driver -- instead of a gas-guzzling trail monster *and* an EV sedan. The Scout may be the one, but it remains to be seen.

The Terra exceeds my Ram's payload rating by 800 lbs and it's tow rating by 2500 lbs. So it's more than enough truck for my needs.

The projected release of the Scout with hope puts some pressure on other companies to speed up their plans.

EV Gladiators, Broncos, Tacomas and others are slow to emerge. But maybe this lights a fire under Jeep, Ford, Toyota et al. to produce a more nimble and slightly smaller EV pickup. Also for Rivian to hurry up with an R2T which is a little more capable.

I think it will. And that's why I also think that by 2027 the Scout will need to have very strong differentiating features and options.

Yes, and Ford has reported they are currently working on designs for a new large EV pickup (being called T3) to replace the Lightning and a smaller/midsized EV pickup being developed by their "skunkworks" team that will be more affordable.

I have a feeling they will be using a new battery tech. Since a 60k less starting price point isn’t possible with the tech we use now because of the mining. But here’s a new battery tech I have been researching. It has a longer life span, and battery life.

I'm still in no way on board with an all electric vehicle, the range extender is the selling point for me, and until the final details are published, it's just a good possible maybe that I put 100 bucks down on, hoping they actually deliver on something that will work for me.

With that said, I'm also very interested in the Ramcharger, (another 100 dollars), which may or may not get my business. Again, if the actual meets my needs.

As of now, they are both just manufacturer's promises of something without any definite absolutes.

As we all know, the reality could be very different than what they are showing and telling.

100% agree, I also put deposit on Ram Charger - that one could actually replace my GMC2500 with it's 14k towing / high payload....both VW and Stellantis are financially struggling but lets hope they invest wisely!

I think it may come in slightly lighter, especially because the "range spec" won't be the one with the AT tires. A dual motor R1T Max pack gets you 340 miles at 70mph (400 EPA rating) with 149 kWh. The Max pack R1T is at least 1500k lbs lighter than the Hummer/Silverado/Sierra. If Scout did a similar pack size, the larger Terra could get closer to 350 EPA, which is all they need to meet their claim.
