Tell it the judge. If you Believe that I have an amazing new crypto currency i can let you in the ground floor. You need to empathize with the dealers legal argument. We could all care less about the dealer but look at the legality and put yourself in their shoes. VW says Scout is no more VW than Toyota or Tesla is part of VW. Hmm what a coincide ce that their product offering fills all the gaps in VW, Audi, Porsche. Listen Manufacturers create new brands the time . Its not fooling any judge. Lexus is really Toyota, Audi really VW. You can juat make up a new make and compete with your EXISTING networm. When will VW get their pick up truck? Elecric or not.
Scout Motors is LITERALLY A DIFFERENT LEGAL BUSINESS ENTITY from VW Group which means VW Group cannot be sued. They're only have their investment in Scout Motors to lose if Scout Motors loses.

Come on man. If its totally different whg are VW dealers suing and not Honda dealers. Im sure you know they are the same people in most cases. . Typically one man will own 5 or 10 different dealership makes. . Why is this one man for example only suing VW?. Your arguement is like saying VW is totally seperate from Porsche. Toyota totally sepeeate from Lexus. How many makes sid GM have at its peak?. In any event it will be fun to watch

I tbought of an easy way to see if Scout is LITERALY, or even figuratively, a different business entity from VW. Lets try ans buy some stock in Scout Motors!

Ran into a roadblock. Heres what I found:

As of now, Scout Motors is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group and has not announced any plans for an initial public offering (IPO). Consequently, Scout Motors’ stock is not available for individual purchase.

However, if you’re interested in investing in Scout Motors indirectly, you can consider purchasing stock in Volkswagen AG, as they own Scout Motors. Volkswagen’s shares are publicly traded on various stock exchanges, including the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “VOW” and as American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in the United States under the ticker symbol “VWAGY.”

Investing in Volkswagen allows you to gain exposure to Scout Motors’ developments, along with Volkswagen’s broader portfolio of automotive brands and technologies.

Funny you mention that. All our dealerships (around 50) for all brands are all owned by the same three people.

And let me take a wild guess. Those three people are upset with VW when it comes to Scout. Not Toyota, not Ford - SCOUT. They can say they are seperate all they want. Tell it to the judge.

Did you read the letter?

It's America. Anyone can sue anyone despite how frivolous the lawsuit.

There is a reason why LEGAL BUSINESS ENTITIES exist. Why Rivian is NOT Amazon it's largest investor nor VW Group for which they formed a Joint Venture.

Of course anyone can sue anyone. Bit that doesnt mean it will will become a lawsuit. Frivolous suits are tossed and usually ag gfeat expense to who sued. But these suits are hardly frivolous and will be very interesting to watch. In my opinion.

Wow, this thread is all over the place?! VW needs access to working knowledge of integrating simplified software into vehicle design and production. Rivian is clearly ahead of any other EV manufacturer currently based the US. This practical knowledge is not available from “off the shelf software providers”. Rivian could benefit from VW supply chain management experience and even direct supplier support/contracted vehicle assembly.

The dealer franchise laws are already being beat by taking delivery out of state or on tribal land. IF this turns ugly Scout could return to using Navistar HD truck dealers as a delivery outlet (mentioned by others is earlier threads). The proposed Scout purchase/service model would limit Navistar dealer investment and their ability to play games with prices/availability. HD truck dealers may also be looking for another revenue stream since none of us know what their business will look like in 10 years?!

Bottom line, many/most(?) Scout order holders will make an effort to avoid the current car dealer purchase experience and that will be difficult to control by passing more laws. HINT to VW (and most) dealers: clean up your act and quit treating each vehicle sale or service visit like an expendable transaction. PS: The bigger the dealer ownership group the more difficult this change will likely be.

Well said. Personally the easiest solution to me would be to do what GM did with Saturn. Start a new dealer network called Scout. Completely tie the dealers hands when it comes to pricing, trade values, and add ons. Everything price and deal wise could be set by Scout. The franchise Scout dealer would be paid a courtesy delivery fee by Scout, help customers learning about their new vehicle, be there for test drives questions, but everything else ordered and done online and you simply pick it up at a Scout Dealer much like Saturn did (although no interenet then). And people loved the Saturn experience so much . . . . . they bought a Saturn! Which everyone knew was an inferior car in every way to the Japanese.

Hehe, I don’t know. There’s no activity around this in Canada yet so there’s been no noise.

Rivian's Like Brew pubs.
Ya have to sell your products to others off-site to survive, get hard cash flow, not just sell in your tavern.
Many early Japanese and Euro EVs had TESLA motors for the hard cash flow.

Lots to be gained for VW. Software is the EV's brain, heart and lungs.
Electricity is the blood.

Scout the brand was bought by VW years ago They were brought back to life fe buy an investment by VW's board who has a fiduciary responsibility to its shareholders I would think Scout is going to show its in best interest of VW shareholders to go DTC model. And their affiliation is as an investor in a start up. I think they win but not in all states. But maybe by the time Santa comes we will know more

Don't know - still have a Saturn. It has 350k miles on it and has never had any real problems other than simple maintenance. To bad it sold well so they killed it.

Only one problem with a old high mileage Saturn. It was a cop magnet. I think I got 7 times for dui checks. Oh there were excuses - dirty license plate, dim license plate light, failure to dim (I was driving with my lows on). When I switched to the Golf, never got stopped again.
