...so does '150 miles' BEV range mean that's when RE will switch itself on by default? Reducing rate of discharge of the smaller battery and extending to '500 miles'?

Or does that mean that's when the smaller battery for EREV is exhausted w/ RE disabled, and you then need to park to plug-in and/or recharge via generator? So perhaps RE defaults to switch on around 75 or 100 miles?
I think it is more of the first scenarios. I think the once the Battery hits a certain % it will kick on to keep the battery from draining completely to Zero. But they haven't really said. Its just what I've noticed watching videos from CES. I hope they give us some more info so we can all stop speculating.

"According to Scout Motors CEO Scott Keogh, at CES 2025:

"The range extender will be a small displacement engine that [will] be retuned to act as a generator. ...it'll run at a steady speed for maximum efficiency while spinning a generator to recharge the vehicle's battery."

"Keogh also promised that this extender will not be as limited as those we've seen in previous EVs, like the BMW i3.
You still have 100% gradability ....you still have all of the things," he said, making this a desirable option for anyone looking to tap into the Terra's 10,000-pound maximum tow rating..."

Reading between the lines, IMO this "100% gradability" statement from CEO Keogh makes it pretty clear that the Harvester genset will be able to at least allow a Scout (at near max gvwr) to maintain highway speed on typical interstate highways that have some ~6% grades.

Based on energy consumption of BEV trucks tested by TFL, to do this will probably require ~30-35kw continuous net output. To provide similar performance while towing a fairly large trailer (frontal area + 8k - 10k lb. gross), will probably require about twice that.

*In order to do this, it is crucial that the genset be allowed to run before the battery pack gets to a low SoC.*

The BMW i3 was hobbled by EPA rules (apparently to do with it being classified as an EV rather than a hybrid) that - among other things - prevented the US version from using more than about a gallon of the gas in the already-small gas tank (IIRC, there were aftermarket patches for this). The "range extender" engine was very small and IIRC, would not run until the battery was nearly depleted, meaning the battery pack could provide little or no surge of energy; leaving the i3 running almost entirely on the little engine.

I should point out that in TFL's tests, the BEV trucks provided outstanding towing performance with the trailers they were rated to tow, generally better than their ICE counterparts... for everything except range and payload. Hopefully the Harvester option will overcome the former, and at least help a little on the latter.

If it's going to require a 35kwh generator, I don't see how they can stuff it under the frame in back. It looks like goodbye frunk space to me.

If I don’t get my frunk, we don’t have a deal.

I don't think there will be any big problem fitting the genset itself. The exhaust will be very compact and the gas tank will fit in space normally occupied by the larger EV-only battery. But the front end will have to have enough space & airflow for the radiator. That's where there might be a conflict with the frunk.
