This is a sort of miss from my perspective, and until now I just incorrectly assumed they'd be able to sell direct in SC. Before cutting a deal to build the plant in a given state, I would have thought legislation (or at least committed legislative support for) allowing DTC was part of the incentive package. I guess that's if that state wanted the plant enough. Maybe not a big enough hill to die on for either party?

I'm also seeing some mixed messaging on these being 50 state vehicles. In some statements 50 state appeal is being cited as rationale for the Harvester, but in other statements comments like "we're not going to be a 50 state car day one" from a sales availability perspective. This needs to be reconciled and when speaking about one the other needs to be mentioned for transparency's sake. That person in the Mountain time zone may only be able to buy a Scout because of the Harvester. But if that person's state nor a bordering state allows DTC then the first point falls apart on a practical level.

The only thing I worry about is service centers. I had a rivian and they have no service centers within 2 1/2 hours one way.

But they do come to you and service your car, if needed, and if you give them some time I'm sure they will have service centers. Playing in this field against these large car manufacturers is hard. I'm fighting Ford, because they got too big and dropped the ball majorly.

This was the same issue when the Mini Coopers came back. It was spicy for a bit but they worked through it at the BMW service centers. They have two years to get it working.

I would not be surprised if the Service Centers would be chosen based off of the locations of all the reservation holders.

They will be in DTC friendly states first I would think to put additional pressure on the not friendly states after getting positive reviews from customers. Then expand accordingly but most likely to major hubs just look at current EV sales data and that would be a good template.
