I'm skeptical of the range numbers, convince me I'm wrong :)

Been doing a lot more reading up on EVs, PHEV, Hybrids, etc. I'm starting to think that with today's (or the near future's) battery tech, 350 miles is highly optimistic. Why you ask?

• Scout's coefficient of drag has to be very high, it's not exactly aerodynamic
• All terrain tires will rob about 10% of range
• They can only add so much in the way of batteries otherwise it becomes even heavier
• Even very aerodynamic vehicles struggle to get 300 miles of range

I'm thinking the real world range will be closer to 290 miles/450 Kms. Still excellent for such a large vehicle but I can't see it being a range leader (Harvester engine aside).

Interested in hearing your thoughts even if it's speculation like I did.

b) don't let the "looks" fool you. most people would assume the Cybertruck has a lower coefficient of drag than the R1T but its actually the opposite.
c) the R1T/R1S can get 300 miles of range with about a 135kWh battery so totally possible for the Terra/Traveler to get that range even with AT tires.

anyone can throw in larger batteries to get more range (Chevy/GMC) but hopefully Scout will do better engineering to get the efficiency up.

EV motors are getting more energy efficient.

Battery technology that it will be using will be semi solid state or fully solid state because of PowerCo being the possible manufacturer.

And we have around 2 years for software to be developed to help battery range.

If I’m being dead honest I think we all should just let Scouts engineers work instead of putting pressure on them. Us all getting antsy about range might fuck us over and make them give us 2miles of range from us forcing them, instead of letting them figure the stuff out and maybe we will see 350 and 500miles.

Didn't realize I was putting undue stress on Scout. I'm older and have been through many startups. So, I'm a tad less likely to put my faith in promises and good intentions.

Good for you bud. Going through multiple start ups.

I get my information from Scout them selfs. They have said that 350 and 500miles are likely not what we will see, they said that the EPA tests will most likely shower higher numbers.

Well the great thing is we all have choices but I am excited about the future of scout they have great ideas and a great platform. I suggest we sit back and see what the final product is. But I am excited about what lies ahead not skeptical. Happy new year we're getting closer

I am in the wait and see camp. Plenty of time for improvements in range from both a battery and technology standpoint. Two reasons to be optimistic.

I am more concerned about where I will be able to charge in NE Ohio. Very sparse number of chargers in the area. Again plenty of time to build more stations across the country, but progress seems woefully slow.

BTW, how are the paid chargers measured? Will we see electricity metered by the KW hour in lieu of price per gallon?

I took a trip with a buddy in his Tesla. Unlike with IC engine driven vehicles, the range on the highway is much lower than in the city due to aerodynamics. Maybe they’re quoting city driving in their 300 number.
