Excuse my ignorance on tires as I have only ever used the stock size tires on vehicles I own. My usage will be 95% on road so aggressive off road tires are not needed.

My goal is to improve in town and highway driving over potholes, bumps, etc. The roads in my location are just awful. My current vehicle (Ford Escape) has 19" with low profile stock tires. They have very little sidewall. Going over any bump jolts the car badly. Springs and shocks are good, as is the tire pressure.

I do not want to add any additional road noise from the larger tires.

I am asking if a larger width tire would help with absorbing bumps and potholes or make them worst. Maybe a 285/70R17.

Equally, I do not want to add offsets, raise the vehicle or add additional stress to OEM components.

I welcome any advice especially if you have added slightly larger tires.

Thanks....

Agreed on looks. Your SR5 does look good.

Did you notice additional road noise?

Did the larger tires help reduce the impact of bumps and potholes?

Larger tires with their bigger sidewalls will have better ride quality than smaller tires with their shorter sidewalls. The bigger sidewalls are able to absorb more road imperfections like bumps & potholes.

If going from a stock 245/70R17 to a 285/70R17 I am just increasing the width and not the sidewall size, right?

So, in theory, more tire, more air in larger space to absorb bumps and defects in road?

I will be going with the same tire size because the 245 is pretty rough on the potholes and bad roads. Im switching wheels as well because I dont like the looks of the 17s but also increasing the width is a better fit for the wider tires.

Appreciate the knowledge. Seems like that is exactly what I want. Assuming no rubbing, etc.

Can I adjust the speedo for the new tire size. I do have Clarista
