Running Boards - Toyota OEM or aftermarket

I am in Colorado Springs and might be interest in purchasing your running boards when you switch out your present ones. I have the SR5.

Anyone have info on these and if they actually provide protection or are just for stepping/looks? I love the look of them, and not trying to go full steel sliders like I have on my 5th gen. They're pricey if not proving any protection at all. Aluminum makes me think they're just steps and not going to do much if they come in contact with a rock.

Following - i just ordered them from my local Toyota Parts dealer, got a 20% code when I purchased my TRD Sport Prem. I’ll report back when I install them.
