In the spec sheets it's easy to find the general weights of the vehicle but the payload is not listed or is not easy to find. Could somebody explain how the payload is estimated? It seems to be under a thousand pounds a low payload for this gen

I'm taking the lack of responses as there is no answer yet. Surprising. I would think this is a very important number to establish because of all the accessories that are being offered. And payload effects the ability to carry accessories on top of people and the gear required to travel with.

The specs did show the payload (GVWR - curb weight):
SR5 = 1550 lbs
Limited = 1400
TRD Pro Hybrid = 1050

Payload capacity is vehicle specific because it depends on what options and accessories are installed. A base SR5 will have the most and a fully loaded Trailhunter will have the least, and everywhere in between.

Payload explanation Here is a good overview on payload:
Great explanation - the payload figures on the hybrid configurations are hugely disappointing. All the marketing for the Trailhunter specifically calls it the model for hauling heavy loads for overlanding.. not with 895lbs of payload it ain't :rolleyes:

from what i remember the platinum is 895 lbs

that is not official, just video reviews from what i saw

895 is more than enough for me, sine its usually just me 90% of the time.

otherwise its the wife and me or me and the 2 gsp dogs.

and if we need to haul something, we use the 23 tundra

Real world payload stickers are being posted now:

Door Stickers: GVWR / Payload Numbers

I don't see a Platinum one posted yet, but hopefully we'll have actual owners soon after they start production on the hybrids.

Another question: does adding heavier rated suspension allow for greater Payload? Or does exceeding payload over stress other components (brakes, transmission) voiding warranty? My guess is that any of us "building" up our rigs are exceeding the recommended payload...at what price beyond < MPG?

I'm sure that suspension is only part of the complete equation of the vehicle. It's not as simple as just adding stronger suspension components without taking the rest of the system into considerations. Just like that we can't just make the 4 legs of a table bigger then we hope to keep piling up megatons on the tabletop.

This one is the real head scratcher for me. You can’t overland worth a damn with that payload limit. Perhaps Toyota is being overly conservative to reduce warranty coverage?

Its a topic no one wants to commit. Demand for the accessories and gear carried drives the market. The suppliers won't admit they are overloading a vehicle or advise buyers to not buy the rack/bumpers, winches.
