For what it's worth I reached out to the dealer I've been working with on the 4Runner I have come over from Japan now and they say they don't anticipate the tariffs having any effect on mine, that anything currently agreed on and deposits in place will be grandfathered in and if the tariffs go into effect it will only be an issue for new builds.

I get the impression that the final picture of what this ultimately looks like is something they are still trying to work out as well.

I also talked with my dealer yesterday. I have a deposit down on a Trailhunter that is supposed to arrive between 5/3 and 5/21. I was told that as long as it actually arrives between the given dates that they would honor the agreed upon price. So there's hope!

I have an MSRP allocation scheduled to be at the dealer on May 09. (4Runner TRD ORP Hybrid Cutting Edge) The sales manager stated that because I have a deposit on an allocation, that tariff if he doesn't back down will not impact my deal. I was very relieved. Good luck to everyone getting their perfect 4Runner.

My reservation is also slated to arrive by that day. My dealer so far is giving me the run around as to whether or not they will honor the quoted price. Goes to show dealers make all the difference. Straight OR in Everest

Question- what do you all think will happen to the value of the new 4 runner and LC after these tariffs are implemented? Will everyone who already owns one see a dramatic value increase? Will they be worth more ?

4Runner production could be moved to the Tacoma assembly plants; they already share the same engine and transmission. I don't know how different the frame is between the two. I remember reading a few years ago that 4Runner was not even sold in Japan.

I placed my order as soon as the news about the tariff came out. The dealership had spoken with theIr Toyota representative that day, and he was still thinking there won’t be any impact on Toyotas arriving from Japan. I’m curious as to how that will play out. Did Toyota strike some sort of deal to build more plants in the US, or do they have something in the works to ensure their vehicles don’t have tariffs applied?

I think that would be possible do the fact they share the same drivetrains and frames ,but I'm under the impression that Mexico is under the same tariffs Japan is so maybe not worth the effort? I sure hope all these smart world leaders figure this out cause this is really bothering me and I've put a down payment with delivery sometimes this summer.?

Setting aside that the tariffs are not just on cars, and they are not done adding to the list yet, it's likely everything related to vehicles will go up because these are all inter-related: parts, accessories, fluids, service cost, insurance, used cars, etc. And higher sales taxes because of higher prices. From there, transportation and delivery costs will go up, and the price of things that rely on transportation and delivery (pretty much everything) will go up.

I hear you, I’m frustrated too, literally in limbo with my order until I get something concrete. Trump said today he “doesn’t care” if foreign car companies raise their prices. Well I sure as shit do…

theres more to this as well… car manufacturers in America will raise there prices too even if they aren't subject to a tariff, as its the “market”. they could undercut the competition but will still raise prices for more profit…. its frustrating to say the least
