I agree in the difficulty of which to choose. It has me thinking I should start saving now so I can buy both. I’m leaning toward the truck when the wife says I gotta choose. :)
I think it ultimately comes down to the range of the battery. I think I would be less likely to get the RE if my battery was only 150 mi range under perfect circumstances. If it’s 200-250… I’d likely go with RE.
Scout isn’t Ford… and that should be a good thing. Dealers definitely got first crack at certain Bronco and Lightning models. And that makes perfect sense… Ford contractually has to do certain things with dealers - not to mention it serves them better to have models on lots for customers to see...
Ordered both at 3:35PM PST (6:35 EST) on 10/24. Also a member of the Scout Community… which supposedly gets me closer to the front of the line.
…also in SC… so maybe that could help?
I think that would have to be the case. I’m sure the charge is slow but if you’re just parked at a campsite then you would expect the generator to charge the battery.
Im interested in how loud the generator will be. If like a Honda 2000… it’ll be pretty quiet. But if it’s like most storm...
I think it’s a “tool” for those that need it. Nothing more. I cannot possibly imagine the generator will provide enough output for infinite range with no drop in performance. I think some think this is an engine. But it’s just a gas powered battery charger. You just can’t tow a trailer or drive...
Here is my guess on how the Range Extender (RE) will work:
With RE Off
As long as you stay within the battery’s range or have access to charging… it’ll function like every other EV. For most days and for most drivers, this is the mode it’ll stay in for daily driving. You’ll get 3.5 miles avg...
Zero chance VW dealers win this one. Dealers know their value is diminishing - so they have to fight but it’s useless.
Every OEM would do away with dealers if they could and weren’t bound contractually. VW set this model to compete with Tesla and Rivian.
What will be interesting is to see how...
I think some people are forgetting this is an EV first and foremost. If you want to tow all day and longer distances… you should buy a IC engine. I don’t think that is who Scout is catering to.
Primarily, the gas generator relieves the anxiety for new adopters with fear of being stuck with no...
I thought they said 350 w battery and extra 150 with generator. A generator isn’t a very efficient use of gasoline but certainly allows for a ton of flexibility. I wouldn’t expect the generator to provide more than 150 miles. I’m guessing the fuel tank will be small - around 5 gallons...
Those original colors are SO good. I expect they will stick with “updated” colors that are very close to the originals.
I plan to buy each in the colors shown at the release. Both looked great.
