I have been towing a NuCamp TAB400 and an Airstream Trade Wind 25FBT with my Rivian R1T. It is true - weight doesn’t matter much. Both trailers ended up around 1.1-1.2 miles per kWh even though the Airstream is twice as heavy. On my large battery / quad motor config, that comes out to around 150...
Agree - and why just VW? Perhaps Porsche dealers should be able to sell them too. And why stop there? Let Ducati dealers sell Scout, Porsche, and VW vehicles... we can play this game all day.
Yeah - most of the range degradation in EV towing comes from aerodynamics, in my experience. That setup doesn't look like it's going to a huge amount of drag.
You sound like a fun person to hang out with. When the time comes, I hope this offer still stands and I'm able to reach out to you to enjoy the ride to pick up my Scout, trade some stories, and perhaps share a beer and some lunch on me. Thank you for being one of the good ones!
I would plan to change oil on any ICE engine on at least an annual basis, even if the engine isn't getting much use. Oil breaks down over time and the generally accepted practice is to do it no less than once a year.
I am, in fact, very concerned about this. If I'm not able to tow with the harvester without charging frequently, then I may decide against going with the Scout and just keep my Rivian. As it stands, I already stop every 2 hours for half an hour of charging with the Rivian+Airstream combo. I need...
The real question for me is can I tow for 250 miles and then refuel with gas and keep going, or do I still need to charge at a charging station? If I can truly “recharge anywhere” with the range extender, then I’d happily accept 250 miles while towing and then needing to refuel.
it would be a step backwards for Scout not to have an integrated brake controller - if they’re using Rivian software anyway, let’s hope that includes their implementation of the brake controller. It uses the right side steering wheel scroll wheel (press in to engage) and it works well. The...
We need to start somewhere, so I welcome the notion of exploring this platform as a Tow Vehicle.
In fact, I'm already on the bleeding edge using a Rivian R1T as a primary Tow Vehicle for an 8000 lb travel trailer - it is by no means an ideal situation, but so long as you do your homework and...
It looks similar in concept to the Jeep retractable fabric top. I know it's had issues in the past as far as leaks and getting stuck are concerned. Let's hope the Scout engineers do this one better.
Here's a picture of my Rivian R1T with the Airstream Trade Wind in its natural habitat...
I hope to not spend as much time doing this with the Scout Terra Harvester!
Indeed - put on over 6000 miles this summer from NY to FL and back and NY to MO and back and various other trips localized to the Northeast. The plan is to travel all the way out West and that starts to give me range anxiety with my current set up. Last year I was pulling a smaller travel...
Since they're leveraging Rivian's software, I suspect they'll get the Driver Assist functionality at least. It's not going to navigate a Costco parking lot or local side streets like Tesla's FSD, but for highway driving (which is where I rely on it most), it's pretty good.
I think we'll be OK - the Cybertruck's charging port is further forward (right on the driver rear wheel well) so it seems comparable to the extra distance being created by the spare tire carrier.
Agreed that most charging stations aren't properly configured for trailers, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how I fared on two recent long trips: Long Island NY to Orlando FL and back, and Long Island NY to Sedalia MO and back. On both trips, I only had to drop the trailer a couple of times...
