Rivian has pretty obviously been AstroTurfing the issue for a while now. On the reddit forum the upvote/downvote patterns on AA/Carplay threads are wildly inorganic - Huge flood of downvotes for AA/CP supporters that then slowly reverses back up over the next few days.

I think we really need that official announcement. Was anybody else around for 2018-era Rivian where they said privately that they'd add it if enough people wanted it? Didn't work out all that well.

It's the kind of thing where once you get used to using it, going back is like going to the stone age. I use voice control to multitask media/maps/calls and texting all the time, and the rivian was about 5% as functional at that as my wife's old $20k CRV running android auto. It was disgusting...

That reads more like a careful non-answer than any kind of confirmation. He mentions people using AA/CP, but not in the context of a scout, and 95% of the response is talking about the necessity of designing the vehicle's systems separate from AA/CP. It's also from before the Rivian/VW joint...

I think the "valuable data" argument has been thoroughly debunked at this point. Basically, Rivian would be able to get vehicle diagnostics/systems data regardless of someone using AA/CP. Apple and google will get location tracking (and everything else the collect) just by you having your phone...

I mean...I gotta believe google and apple want companies implementing those services. - For example there's no licensing fee for either. Toyota was able to patch in Carplay functionality to an entire platform that was never designed for it with a $60 dealership software upgrade. Can't be that hard.

Today's VW/Rivian/Scout announcement seems to indicate that the software/infotainment will be tightly tied to Rivian's, and they'll probably follow Rivian's hubris into the void by not offering Android Auto and Carplay. I wish they'd address this directly, but at this point I'm not holding out...

Kinda bummed that they seem to be sticking so tightly to rivian's software. I'm not going back to the stone age without full access to my phone via Android auto/carplay. Rivian's been claiming they'll have equivalent functionality for 5 years and it's still 5 years off.

Having a nav and a Bluetooth connection won't cut it...That's what Rivian does and it's like going back to the stone age after having your entire digital life easily available in the car.

Can't find anything, I know most VWs have it... But rivian's software is the class dunce without it. I'll preorder a terra if so.
